Facebook is a place to connect with people, but sometimes Facebook can also reveal too much. If you want your Facebook profile to be less visible, you can use privacy settings to lock information. Through accessing Facebook settings, you can prevent others from reading posts and hide all personal data. If you want to hide your personal information completely, you can temporarily disable the account. All data will be saved, but not visible to Facebook users until you reactivate Facebook.

Disable the profile if you want to hide for a while. Disable your Facebook page if you plan to stop using Facebook for a while. Deactivation is not permanent, and your site will be restored the next time you log in. Your personal information will be completely hidden during the period of disabling the profile.

  • While your profile is disabled, you won’t be able to view other people’s Facebook content that isn’t set to “Public”.

Hide posts and tags. You can hide posts so others can’t see them, or restrict them to a group of close friends.

  • Click “Edit” next to “Who can see your future posts?” (Who can see your next post?). This step will allow you to change the group of people who can see your post.
  • Select “Only Me” to make all posts private. This step allows only you to view the post instead of others. You can choose another group, such as Close Friends or a drop-down list, but note that anyone who can see your posts can share the post with their friends.
  • This tool will automatically convert old posts to Friends Only. This step will restrict people from seeing past posts. If you want to convert to “Only Me,” you’ll need to find each post one by one and convert it to private manually.

Block others from posting on your timeline. You can turn off posting to your timeline so other people can’t post to your page. This step allows you to use only your own timeline, or block and lock it completely.

  • Click the “Timeline and Tagging” option in the left menu. This step will open the Timeline settings.
  • Click “Edit” next to “Who can post to your timeline?” (Who can post to your timeline?). This step will allow you to adjust who can post content to your profile.
  • Select “Only Me” to switch to a completely private timeline. This step prevents others from posting to your timeline. Combined with the previous steps to hide posts, your timeline will be completely private.
  • Click “Edit” next to “Who can see what others posts on your timeline?” (Who can see other people posting to your timeline?). This step will adjust who can see what other people post to your timeline.
  • Select “Only Me.” This step will block others from seeing your profile posts.

  • Click the Facebook button in the upper left corner.
  • Select “Edit Profile” in the upper left menu.
  • Click the “Edit” button next to each item in your personal information.
