Take a look at the speed results. In addition to telling you whether the connection quality is “fast” or “slow”, Google calculates connection speed based on the following three aspects:

  • Mbps download – The number of megabits per second that your connection allows downloads.
  • Mbps upload – The number of megabits/second your connection allows for uploads.
  • Latency – The number of milliseconds it takes for your Internet connection to respond to a command (such as searching for a keyword or loading a page, etc.).

Look at the numbers next to “Link Speed”. Here, you’ll see a number, such as “100 Mbit/s,” which means the line speed between your computer and the router is 100 megabits of data per second.
  • Advice

    • The actual Internet connection is often much lower than the router’s maximum speed. Using an internal cable allows us to take full advantage of the router’s speed.

    Warning

    • Your Internet speed never exceeds your router’s allowed speed nor the service plan speed you use—the actual speed is always lower.
