Your electricity bill this month suddenly increased without knowing the reason? You plan to save money, but the price of electricity is still increasing. So, let’s learn about peak and off-peak hours of electricity to use electrical appliances and household appliances in a reasonable way.
Peak and off-peak hours of electricity
According to the Vietnam Electricity Group, the regulation on electricity selling prices in the form of three prices sets out regulations on the time frame including: Normal time frame, peak time frame and off-peak time frame . If you use electricity at each time, electricity will be sold at different prices .
Normal time frame : is the period of normal electricity demand.
Regulations include days from Monday to Saturday
- From 4:00 to 9:30 (5 hours 30 minutes)
- From 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (5:30 p.m.)
- From 20:00 to 22:00 (2 hours)
Particularly on Sundays from 4:00 to 22:00 (18:00).
Peak time frame : is the time of the day that consumes and uses the most electricity . The characteristic of this time frame is that the power consumption is large while the power plants’ ability to supply electricity is not sufficient . At the same time, the voltage drop of the power network may adversely affect the working mode of electrical appliances .
Regulations include days from Monday to Saturday
- From 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (2 hours)
- From 17:00 to 20:00 (3 hours)
Peak time frame : is the time when the demand for electricity is lowest.
Specify all days of the week from 22:00 to 4:00 a.m. the next day (6 hours).
Peak hour electricity price
According to regulations, the subjects applying to buy electricity in the form of three prices :
- Customers using for production, business and service purposes are supplied with electricity through a special-purpose transformer of 25 kVA or more or with an average power output of 2,000 kWh/month or more.
- Electricity retailers in industrial parks
- Units that buy retail electricity for non-living purposes at commercial – service – living complexes.
The electricity retail price list is divided specifically for each object and time frame as follows:

- If the homeowner can fully declare the number of electricity users , the electricity seller is responsible for granting the norm for the house based on the temporary residence book or proof of temporary residence of the local police agency managing the area, every 4 hours. people are counted per household to use electricity to calculate the number of applied retail price of domestic electricity.
How to save electricity during peak hours
Using electricity at peak hours will not consume more electricity than in other time frames, but for production and business customers, it will cost more electricity than usual. However, if it is possible to plan to limit electricity use during peak hours, it will ensure production and business efficiency and save electricity costs . At the same time, it also improves the reliability of power supply, keeping electrical equipment safe .
Here are some ways to save electricity during peak hours :
- Use energy-saving devices , especially with cooling function.
- Adjust the temperature of the air conditioner reasonably , during the day it should be from 25 – 26 degrees and at night to 27 – 29 degrees C.
- Refrigerator is not adjusted to be too cold , only open the refrigerator when necessary, make sure the refrigerator is closed.
- Choose electrical appliances with energy stars or energy labels (the more stars, the more you save).
- Use LEDs instead of fluorescent lights.
- Make a plan to save, monitor the electricity index by looking up online references about monthly electricity usage through the electricity industry’s statistical system.
- Let the food cool completely before placing it in the refrigerator.
- Avoid using multiple electrical devices at the same time.
- Use pots and pans with a cross section suitable for the area of the induction hob to absorb enough heat.
- Turn off and unplug the power outlet when the appliance is not in use.
Through the useful information in the article, we hope to help you understand more about the time frames of electricity, the electricity price list of each target group. From there, you can plan to save electricity, helping to reduce your monthly electricity costs somewhat.
