How is the EER Energy Efficiency Index calculated?
The EER of an air conditioner is measured by the ratio of the cooling capacity (1HP or 9000BTU in W) to the power consumed (W). The higher the EER (W/W) rating, the more efficient the air conditioning products are.

- 1 HP = 9000 BTU
- 1 BTU = 2.93 W
- 1 W = BTU/2.93
EER = cooling capacity (W)/electrical capacity (W)
EER=(BTU/2.93)/W

For example, if an air conditioner with a rating of 10,000 BTU consumes 1,200W of electricity, then the EER rating = (10,000BTU/2.93)/1200W) = 2.8
