What is AirPlay 2 on TV?

AirPlay 2 is a feature that allows you to use Apple devices to control the playback of media files, stream audio, display your screen on your TV, or do other similar tasks. This is Apple’s proprietary wireless video and audio transmission protocol.

AirPlay 2 is built-in to Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.

Apple unveiled its AirPlay 2 update at the WWDC 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference and appeared a year later on Apple’s HomePod smart speaker.

And the latest, after CES 2019 , AirPlay will be integrated into many smart TV products from different manufacturers, not necessarily within the range of Apple devices as before.

What can AirPlay 2 do?

AirPlay 2 is an exciting technology with many useful features for users, which can be used to:

• Browse for something to watch on Netflix, iTunes , or other services on your iPhone, and send it to your big screen TV, which will stream the content from the cloud. You can then use your iPhone to control operations such as play, pause, increase or decrease the volume, and more.
• Display photos and videos from your iPhone on your TV, allowing you to zoom in, zoom out, slide show,… right on your phone.
• Play music (or any other type of audio) on your TV and sync it with AirPlay 2 compatible speaker systems in many other locations in your home.
• Directly project actions displayed on the iPhone, iPad or Mac screen to the TV screen in real time.
