Subway has long been Britain’s go-to place for a relatively healthier alternative to the string of fast food options on offer.
Giving the chance to enjoy a sandwich freshly-made to order, the American company has really taken off and is becoming a staple among Brits.
Customers can choose between various breads, fillings and veggies in the 2000-odd stores across the UK and Ireland.
But now a ‘sandwich artist’ , who claims to work for a store in the UK, has filled people in on what it’s like to work for the US fast-food chain.
Writing on Reddit, the poster started a thread under the guise of subwayworkeruk, calling on people to ask any question they like – and the answers were eye-opening.
Especially when the poster admitted which sandwiches they AVOID at all costs.
The user wrote: “Avoid: Chipotle Chicken & Teriyaki Chicken. Why? Chicken is given a two day shelf life, once in the counter. However these two bypass this and get four days, and can get a little stinky.
“I’d recommend anything else, Subway is very strict on quality control and dates.”

But the poster admitted “steak is probably the freshest, and safest”.
The poster, who says they are a web developer in their spare time, however, revealed the best deals on offer at their store.
They said: “Meatball Marinara, Chipotle Chicken, Tikka Chicken, Spicy Italian [and] BMT. All these sandwiches are £3 (or £5 for footlong) with a drink. And between 7pm and 9pm all these sandwiches are 20% off.”
But which sub sandwich comes up trumps for them? The poster, who has since deleted their Reddit account, said: “…6inch hearty Italian, meatball sauce, cheese, toasted. With a tone of salad and southwest sauce.”
Does a footlong really measure a foot in length? Technically yes, but the baking methods mean you get less than you bargained for.
They claimed: “Subway Footlong’ is a trade mark of Subway, and is just the name of the submarine sandwich size. However due to a lawsuit, Subway have decided to ensure each footlong is exactly 12 inches. In regards to shrinkage, minor shrinkage occurs when the bread is baked.
Want to get your money’s worth? Order this instead.
They said: “Here’s a little tip – if you want a footlong, try flatbread. The way flatbread is made and prepared we give you 14inches.”
You can get your meal cheaper if you order after 7pm
Is your Subway worker being stingy with toppings? The ‘employee’ reckons you can fill to your heart’s content.
They added: “Salad is free! Have as much onion as you want! … As a customer you can have anything on your sandwich (within reason)”
A SUBWAY® brand spokesperson told the Daily Mirror: “All SUBWAY® stores are independently owned and operated by franchisees. All stores have very strict procedures in place to ensure products are served safely and to customers’ satisfaction and all suppliers are required to meet our high standards of food safety and product integrity.”
It comes after Express.co.uk told why you should never ask for this ingredient in your drink.
