Players can organize chests in Stardew Valley using the Organize button next to the inventory. This will automatically sort the items contained in the chest, grouping together similar items of different qualities, combining stacks, and so on.

The button is found to the right of the chest’s inventory and directly above the trash can. On PC, players can simply mouse over to it and click it. Console players can navigate over to the button and select it. Once the button is pressed, all the items will instantly be rearranged. There is no way to directly influence the logic of how items are sorted, but players can manually change the order of the items based on their preferences.

Best Way to Arrange Chests

The best way to organize chests in Stardew Valley is to keep items together based on the task they’re associated with. This will help in both the early game and endgame, allowing players to make one quick stop to put away their items.

As the player amasses an assortment of items, weapons, and crops, they’re inevitably going to have a load of chests they need to deal with. The best way to approach this is to have chests associated with the different major tasks players do in Stardew Valley.

For example, players ought to keep all their different tree-related items in one chest. Keeping wood, acorns, pine cones, hardwood, pine tar, sap, and other similar items together allows players to quickly and efficiently drop off their haul and move on to the next task. Players will eventually need to subdivide this, like having different chests for ocean and river fish or each season of crops.

From there, players can create separate chests for specific goals. Placing a chest right near the eastern exit to the farm that holds items to finish bundles and preferred NPC gifts is a wise move.
