Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Wiki Guide
Super Training
Super Training is a different type of training system in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire that uses the 3DS’ touch screen to train Pokemon. This can be done at any time outside of battle. The option will be available on the bottom screen in the PokeNav Plus.
In past games, training Pokemon efficiently was very tough to do. You could simply level up in an area, but this would only give certain Effort Values to the trained Pokemon. Effort Values were hidden stat values that increased a Pokemon’s Base Stats.
Effort-O-Meter
The new Effort-O-Meter allows you to view each of your Pokemon’s base stats and the increases to those stats from super training. The inner green shows the Pokemon’s original base stats, and the outer yellow-green shows how much the stats have increased. This allows players to view how many Effort Value Points are assigned to each stat, though the exact amount is still not present. Only a max of 510 Effort Values points can be spread throughout a Pokemon’s six base stats, and four EV points increase a base stat one point.
Core Training
After completing Super Training Regimens, the Pokemon will be awarded with a training bag. These are punching bags that Pokemon can hit to add even more Effort Value Points to their Base Stats. The bigger the bag, the more points it will give, but the longer it will take to break the bag and earn the points. The Pokemon will automatically hit the bags themselves every few seconds, or you can get them to hit the bag by tapping the screen with the stylus. Tapping the screen will be much quicker than allowing the Pokemon to train by themselves.
Training bags that boost a Pokemon’s base stat (HP, attack, defense, special attack, special defense, or speed) will always be awarded after completing a super training regimen. However, if a Pokemon fails a regimen, they will be given another type of training bag to help them with their next regimen.
Some bags can randomly be found by your Pokemon if you remain on the Super Training screen while out on your adventure.
Bag | Hits | Description |
Stat Bag S | 10 | Adds 1 Effort Value Point to the Base Stat of the same name. |
Stat Bag M | 25 | Adds 4 Effort Value Point to the Base Stat of the same name. |
Stat Bag L | 50 | Adds 12 Effort Value Point to the Base Stat of the same name. |
Strength Bag | 5-10 | Successful shots will award more points in the Pokemon’s next Super-Training Regimen. |
Big-Shot Bag | 5-10 | Shots will home towards the nearest goal in the Pokemon’s next Super-Training Regimen. |
Toughen-Up Bag | 5-10 | Makes balloon Bots’ shots less effective in the Pokemon’s next Super-Training Regimen. |
Double-Up Bag | 5-10 | Doubles base-stat increases the next time the Pokemon takes on a Super-Training Regimen. |
Swiftness Bag | 5-10 | Makes the Pokemon quicker the next time the Pokemon takes on a Super-Training Regimen. |
Soothing Bag | 250 | Makes a Pokemon slightly friendlier towards its Trainer. |
Reset Bag | 100 | Completely resets all of the base stats of a Pokemon. |
Team Flare Bag | 5-10 | “Energizes” the Pokemon. |
Super Training Regimens
The Super Training Regimens are mini-games to train each Pokemon. The first time you start up Super Training, your Pokemon will begin two tutorial mini-games that boost their defense stat. Once complete, six mini-games will be available to train one of six Base Stats: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed.
The super training regimens rules are simple: One Pokemon must earn enough points by shooting soccer balls at white goals on a balloon bot in the middle of the field. Reach the set score before the time limit runs out to complete the regimen. Once the white goal is hit, it will disappear. Sometimes a red goal will appear for a short time on the balloon bot, and it will not disappear after being hit. Shoot this goal as many times as possible to earn extra points.
Use the circle pad to move up, down, left, and right in the field. Use the D-Pad’s Up and Down buttons to move closer and further away from the balloon bots. Use the L button to form a barrier for a short period of time. The barrier will protect the Pokemon from any balls the balloon bot may throw. Tap the lower screen with the stylus to fire balls at the balloon bots.
In addition to normal shots, special “Charged Shots” can be performed by holding the stylus on the bottom screen until the Pokemon glows. Don’t hold it for too long or the charged shot will disappear. Hitting a goal with a charged shot will net you triple the points compared to normal shots.
Balloon Bots won’t just stand there while being hit by soccer balls. There are three ways each bot defends itself:
- Soccer Balls: The most common way a balloon bot defends itself is firing their own soccer balls back at your Pokemon. Sometimes the balls are fast, sometimes they’re slow, and sometimes they will follow the Pokemon around the field. If the ball is tall and thin, move left or right to dodge it. If the ball is short and flat, move up or down to dodge it.
- Balloons: Select balloon bots will use their own balloons for defense. Three balloons will be set out in front of the balloon bot, each having their own health meter. Destroy them to get a clear shot at the balloon bot for a short time. After awhile, another balloon will appear on the field.
- Barriers: Few balloon bots will use their very own barrier for defense. While the barrier is up, Pokemon will not be able to hit any of the goals on the bot. Hit the moving target to bring down the entire barrier.
Complete all six regimens with any number of Pokemon in your party to unlock the next level of regimens. Each level increases in difficulty and awards more Effort Value points to a base stat. In addition to EV points, training bags will be given for completing or even failing at a super training regimen. See Core Training below for more info.
Level | Difficulty | EV Points Earned |
1 | Easy | 4 Effort Value Points to a Base Stat |
2 | Medium | 8 Effort Value Points to a Base Stat |
3 | Hard | 12 Effort Value Points to a Base Stat |
