Steps to Miles Chart
We’ve all heard that we should be walking 10,000 steps a day. But what does that mean? For someone that is relatively new to embracing a fitness routine, this number can sound really intimidating. I hope that this matrix helps provide some insight into how much you should actually be moving each day. 10,000 steps equates to approximately five miles. All forms of movement and exercise will contribute to this daily goal.
You may be surprised just how quickly those steps add up, wandering the aisles of Target or the grocery story. If you are looking to add more steps into your day, try parking further away from the store, taking the stairs or using a different restroom or drinking fountain at your office. If you are having trouble carving out a thirty minute workout , try taking short, five minute walk breaks throughout the day. Small changes yield big results.
Members of my monthly Women Working on Wellness fitness and weightloss accountability groups are encouraged to targe 10,000 steps daily – or set a personalized goal that is achievable for their level of fitness and daily routine. An attainable goal is better than no goal at all.
Just keep moving forward.
