VANCOUVER – Hundreds of pet lovers turned out for a memorial walk Sunday morning for the six dogs that died from heat stroke in the care of their dog walker.
Emma Paulsen claimed the dogs had been taken from the back of her pickup truck in Langley and reported them stolen on May 13.
However, on May 18 she admitted that the dogs, now known as the ‘Brookswood 6’, had died after being left in her truck on a hot day and she dumped the bodies in an Abbotsford ditch.
The BC SPCA has recommended charges of animal cruelty but none have been laid.
Jennifer Myers was one of the people whose dog ‘Buddy’ died in the back of the truck. She attended the walk on Sunday and said they have been looking at the possibility of getting another dog from the BC SPCA. “We always wanted to give Buddy a sibling and we never had the opportunity to do that,” she said. “So that’s why we’re looking now and maybe give him his honorary sibling.”
“To us, Buddy was our kid, our entire world, so that’s why I think we really need to honour him by getting another dog.”
She said all of the six dogs loved coming to North 40 Dog Park in Ladner and that’s why they wanted to hold the walk there and honour the dogs.
Louise Scott owned Molly who also perished in the back of the truck. “I loved her completely,” said Scott. “My cat is wandering around the house looking for her.”
