KC Chiefs: What to think of Clyde Edwards-Helaire four games in
Clyde Edwards-Helaire has become a regular feature in the KC Chiefs’ offense so far this season.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire has so far this season rushed 71 times for 304 yards, averaging a solid 4.3 average yards per rush. He has managed to pick up just the one touchdown so far coming against the Houston Texans, but his bullish runs and his determination are helping drive the Kansas City Chiefs forward in times of need.
On the other side of things, Edwards-Helaire has also added to the receiving side of the offense for the team. The 21-year-old has been targeted by Patrick Mahomes on 19 occasions, receiving the ball 14 times while picking up 129 yards in the process, this is an average of 9.2 yards per catch for the running back.
The youngster adds another weapon to an already exciting offense, which is packed with stars such as Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce, this gives opposing defense a lot more to think about and makes the Chiefs just the little bit more unpredictable. The Chiefs needed an electric running back to add to their arsenal and Edwards-Helaire gives them just that.
Through four games, Edwards-Helaire has managed to fill the void left by Damien Williams, who decided to sit out the season due to COVID-19. Williams had a remarkable display in the Super Bowl last season as he had a total of 133 yards, including 104 rushing yards from 19 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per carry in the game and also coming away with two touchdowns to help the Chiefs overcome the San Francisco 49ers.
Edwards-Helaire has had a good start to life in Kansas City, but he has not been anything to shout from the rooftops about so far, although he and his teammates should be happy with the start he has made. It’d be nice to see him get even more involved in the offense, particularly in the passing game. Once the run game gets going, this offense will be really difficult to stop.
The rookie will be hoping to carry on his good start to the season and up his game by picking up more touchdowns as the season goes on and help the Chiefs to try and retain their Super Bowl crown. He’s been worth the first round pick so far and will end the season as one of the best players on this team.
