OBITUARY
Joyce Marie DeWitt
July 8, 1929 – January 22, 2021
On Friday, January 22, 2021, Joyce Marie DeWitt – loving wife, mother, grandmother and pastor’s wife – peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Joyce was born on July 8, 1929 in Tacoma WA to Robert and Nellie (Fredlund) Woll. She was their darling little girl with long blonde curls. Joyce graduated from Highland High School, and later attended both Central Bible College (Springfield MO) and NW College of the Assemblies of God (Seattle WA). She was skilled as a bookkeeper, worked for the Salvation Army, and was a member of various gospel teams, including the Woll Trio Evangelists. On September 5, 1964 Joyce married Rev. Leonard DeWitt. They raised a daughter, Pam, and a son, Sheldon. During their 56 years of marriage and ministry, Leonard and Joyce served the Wapato Ave Chapel (Wapato WA), Ventura Missionary Church (Ventura CA), The Missionary Church Inc. (Fort Wayne IN) and most recently Ventura Jubilee Fellowship (Ventura CA). Joyce had a flair for elegant fashion and interior design. Her family affectionately nicknamed her The Queen. She was a very gifted seamstress – even sewing her own exquisite wedding gown, then remaking it for her daughter years later. She enjoyed arranging flowers, handcrafting seashell artwork, designing jewelry and decorating with blue and white dishes. But Joyce’s heart passion was teaching boys and girls to meet, know and serve Jesus Christ. She especially enjoyed her 3rd-5th grade Sunday School classes, nurturing relationships with her students and teammates. She was also dearly beloved by their church families and remembered as Beautiful Inside and Out. Sweet. Gentle. Treasure. Blessing. Exemplary. Example of Grace. Prayer Warrior. For this she had JESUS. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nellie Woll, and her brother and sister-at-heart, Kenn and Ethel Woll. She is survived by her husband Leonard; her two children and their spouses Jim and Pam Merillat (Ventura CA) and Sheldon and Debbie DeWitt (Colorado Springs CO); her four grandchildren Christopher (Giovanna) DeWitt, Jonathan DeWitt, Kaitlin DeWitt and Caleb Merillat; one great-granddaughter Evie DeWitt; a nephew Scott (Kerry) Shadbolt, a nephew Kevan (Kerstin) Woll, and two nieces Karen (Rick) Southorn and Karla (Dale) Kasperson. Joyce – We miss you deeply. But the gifts you gave us…your laughter, smile, wisdom, devotion, creativity, memories, faith, godly example, and love…will be ours forever. Thank you! Until then…. A private graveside will be held by the family. Donations in celebration of Joyce’s life may be sent to Ventura Jubilee Fellowship, 1956 Palma Drive, Ventura CA 93003, and will be given to Child Evangelism Fellowship.
