Everyone wants to have pearly white teeth with a bright smile. While good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups will help keep your teeth looking great, sometimes you need a quick fix – especially when you want to spruce up your teeth for a special event. Luckily, there are ways to whiten your teeth in under an hour! Start with step 1 below to learn more!
Steps
Use home remedies
- Use a dry towel to wipe the teeth and saliva on the teeth. Wet your toothbrush and dip it in baking soda. Then brush your teeth as usual, paying special attention to the 16 front teeth. Brush your teeth for about 3 minutes.
- Note that baking soda can wear down the enamel that protects teeth if used for a long time. So brushing your teeth with baking soda every day is not a good idea. You should only apply once or twice a week to whiten teeth without damaging enamel. [1] X Research Source
- One way to use hydrogen peroxide is to dip a clean washcloth in the solution, then gently rub it over your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide will remove stains by chemical reaction, while towels will help remove stains by physical action.
- Alternatively, you can rinse your mouth with a cap of hydrogen peroxide (which kills bacteria and freshen your breath) or dip your toothbrush in the hydrogen peroxide solution and brush your teeth.
- You can also mash a strawberry and mix it with some baking soda to make a natural toothpaste.
- Other foods that can help clean and whiten teeth naturally include apples, pears, carrots, and celery.
- If you drink any of the above drinks, you can prevent staining by drinking through a straw, or applying a layer of Vaseline to your teeth before drinking.
- Alternatively, you can chew a stick of sugar-free gum after eating or drinking them to help absorb new stains, and your teeth will look whiter. [3] X Research Sources
Use commercially available products
- Teeth whitening cream has abrasive particles that help polish teeth and remove stains (without damaging enamel). They also contain chemicals (such as blue covarine) that stick to tooth surfaces and help teeth look whiter. [4] X Research Sources
- To use whitening toothpaste, take a pea-sized amount, brush your teeth in a circular motion, holding the brush head at a 45-degree angle to the gums.
- Teeth whitening strips can be purchased over-the-counter at pharmacies or supermarkets. Avoid buying brands that contain the ingredient “chlorine dioxide” as it can damage tooth enamel.
- To use whitening strips, take out the strip and stick one on the upper teeth and one on the lower teeth. Let stand for 30 minutes. Some are self-dissolving after use, but some need to be removed.
- For best results, you should continue to use the whitening strips twice daily for two weeks.
- Open the pen cap and twist to squeeze out the cream. Stand in front of a mirror and bare your teeth, then use a pen to “sweep” the gel over your teeth.
- Open your mouth for about 30 seconds to let the glue dry. Try not to eat or drink for 45 minutes after applying the gel.
- For best results, repeat three times daily for a month.
- Squeeze some peroxide concentrate gel into the tray and attach it to the teeth.
- Depending on the type of tray, you may only need to wear it for half an hour or leave it overnight. Although one use also helps whiter teeth, but if you want visibly whiter teeth, you need to apply many times.
- Custom-made trays can be expensive, but they fit your teeth and make the whitening process more effective than commercially available one-size-fits-all trays.
Use teeth whitening treatments
- This will help you have healthy teeth, prevent tooth decay and gum diseases in addition to beauty and whitening effects.
- Your dentist can also perform in-office whitening, similar to at-home tray whitening, but the bleach is much stronger.
- You will have a whitening gel applied to your teeth and a gum protector on. A laser or white light will be shined on the teeth to activate the bleaching gel.
- You may have to go to the dentist for several sessions, depending on how white you want your teeth to be. Each session takes about 30 minutes.
Advice
- Brush your teeth every day.
- Brush your teeth right after eating so food doesn’t get stuck in your teeth and your breath doesn’t smell bad.
- Avoid foods and drinks that stain teeth such as soy sauce, wine, tobacco, and coffee.
- Do not drink energy drinks and soft drinks regularly, as these drinks are high in sugar and will stain teeth.
- Brush your teeth after breakfast, after dinner and before going to bed.
- If you are addicted to drinks that can stain your teeth (coffee, red wine, black tea, coca cpa, etc.), try using a straw.
- Drinking coffee and wine through a straw will help prevent teeth stains.
- Swish a mixture of baking soda, salt, lemon juice, and vinegar. Rubbing the inside of a banana peel on your teeth can help whiten your teeth.
- Brush your teeth with some baking soda.
Warning
- If you experience pain or tooth sensitivity while using any of these treatments, you should stop immediately and make an appointment with your dentist. Rinse mouth thoroughly.
- Do not use teeth whitening too often because teeth can be worn down. It should only be applied once a month at most.
