Learn Lens. The most popular lens was one of Snapchat’s first effects: a rainbow release. After this, Snapchat regularly updates new Lens effects such as face swap, multiple animal faces, character transitions, face distortion, “Birthday Party” and many more. .

  • Lens is a special effect that is applied at the time of using face detection, so you can see your actions affect the Lens effect right on the screen. Because Lens interacts frequently, you must follow certain movements to create a specific effect (for example, open your mouth to let a rainbow flow from your mouth like a waterfall). Snapchat offers 10 free Lens effects every day, and they change daily. If you have purchased a Lens, you can use it anytime you want.
  • Lens is used before you take a picture or video to make a Snap, while the filter feature (Filters) is added after you have a Snap. You can use the Lenses and Filters effects at the same time.

Learn the limitations of Lens on mobile and hardware. The Lens feature is not compatible with most Android phones, but only on newer iPhones (although there have been some incompatibilities recently). If you don’t have a newer device, chances are you won’t be able to use the Lens feature. Even with a newer device, the possibility of this feature not working is still possible. [1] X Research Source

  • The original iPhone 4 and iPad did not support the Lens feature. However, many users reported that they could not use Lens on some devices that were supposed to support this feature.
  • Lens is supported on Android 4.3 operating system or newer Android phones. Even after updating the device to the latest version, some users reported that this feature still does not work.

Update Snapchat. Make sure you’re using the latest version of Snapchat to access the Lens feature. You can update Snapchat on the App Store or Google Play Store.

Switch to Selfie mode (Take a “selfie”) on Snapchat. Lens works by detecting faces, then adding effects. You can use the rear camera or the front camera, but the easiest way is to try on the front camera. Opening the app will instantly turn on your rear camera. You can turn on the front camera in two ways:

  • Tap the icon in the upper right corner (circle made up of two arrows) to turn on the front camera. You can also tap the screen twice to switch between cameras.

Hold the phone away so that you can see the whole face. Lens works best when you can see your entire face in the frame.

  • Besides, you need to ensure good lighting so as not to affect face recognition.

Press and hold your face on the screen until the entire geometry is complete. After a while, the app scans your face and Lens options will appear below the screen.

  • Make sure your whole face is in the screen and you’re holding the phone steady. You may have to press and hold the screen for a few seconds, or even try several times until the feature turns on. If you only see the face detection frame, you should adjust the lighting.

Select the Lens effect you want to use. Swipe left/right to select available effects. Snapchat updates Lens daily, so you always have new options.

  • Some popular Lenses that you often come across are: rainbow release effect, screaming, zombie, “in love”, crying effect.
  • The “Birthday Party” effect is activated on your birthday (if you have Birthday Party turned on in Settings). You can use this effect on your friends’ birthdays — just look for the cake icon next to the user’s name, which is used to announce their birthday, and tap it to access it. Instant effect access. [2] X Research Source
  • Since Snapchat changes the Lens daily, the effect you need may not be available. Try checking again in a day or two to see if the effect shows up.
