Apps on iPad are updated regularly, and installing the latest versions gives you access to many features and best performance. You can get updates for installed apps via the App Store. You can also set your iPad to automatically download updates.

Connect iPad to a wireless network. You will need internet access to check for and download updates. If your iPad has a 4G connection, you can use it to download updates, but this will be charged to your data plan.

  • Open the Settings app and tap “Wi-Fi” to find and connect to a wireless network.

Open the App Store. You can find this app on one of your iPad’s home screens. This option is located in the Utilities folder.

Tap “Update” next to the app to start downloading the update. The app will be added to the download queue. Applications will be updated in turn.

Click “Update All” (“Update All”) to install all available updates. You will find this button in the upper left corner of the screen. All apps for which updates are available will be queued for download.

Please wait while updating the application. Once an app update is downloaded, the app icon will turn gray on the home screen and you’ll see a progress indicator for the process. The app can be reused once the icon is back to normal.

Update again if it fails. Usually the “Update All” function doesn’t work properly and some apps will just show the “Update” button again. You can tap “Update All” again, or tap the “Update” button individually for each app.

Fix crash when updating apps. There are a few things you can try if the app isn’t updating properly:

  • Double-tap the Home button to open the App Switcher. Swipe up on the App Store window to close it. Go back to the home screen and open the App Store. Try downloading the updates again.
  • Restart iPad. Press and hold the Power button until the Power slider appears. Use your finger to slide the slider and wait for the iPad to turn off. Turn it back on and then try downloading the updates again.
  • Restore iPad to factory settings. If the updates still don’t work, try a factory reset to clear the cache. Press and hold the Power and Home buttons until the device turns off.
