How to Unlock Stand on Nintendo Switch

This wikiHow teaches you how to use a kickstand to play Nintendo Switch in portable mode. You can detach the Joy-con controller and use the kickstand to play Nintendo Switch without a TV.

Remove the Nintendo Switch from the dock. The Dock is the device for you to charge your Nintendo Switch and play on your TV. To get the Nintendo Switch, you hold it by the sides and slide it up out of the slot.

Remove the Joy-con handle. Joy-con controllers are attached to the sides of the Nintendo Switch console. To remove the Joy-con controller, hold down the round button located next to the ZL and ZR buttons on the back of the controller, and slide it up to separate the devices.

Attach the Joy-con strap. The Joy-con strap includes flat pieces with two buttons and a wrist strap. Find the opening located below the black wire via the gray slide switch. The strap is engraved with “+” and “-” on the top. You need to position the “+” or “-” mark engraved on the strap corresponding to the “+” or “-” buttons on the controller, and then slide the strap through the groove on the side of the Joy-con to Attach the strap to the handle.

To remove the Joy-con handle, push the gray switch located at the bottom of the strap and slide the strap out.

Extend the base. The kickstand is the thin plastic plate that sits behind the Nintendo Switch, which opens from underneath the device. You may need to use your fingers or a flat object to open the stand, then pull it out until you hear a “click”.
