Do you travel a lot and want to use your phone in another country? Or are you bored with your current service and want to change to a new carrier before your contract expires? Jailbreaking Samsung phones allows us to use another carrier’s SIM and connect to that mobile network. You’ll need to contact your carrier to unlock your phone, but there’s still a chance that your contract hasn’t expired and they don’t support it. In this case, you can consider using a third-party service or manual unlocking if the phone model is suitable. Let’s see step 1 below.

Call your carrier and ask about the unlock policy. Most carriers will agree to unlock it after the user has used the phone for a certain amount of time or when the contract expires. If the contract is still in effect, they will likely ask you to pay an early termination fee to unlock the phone.

  • They can unlock it early if you explain that you’re going abroad on business and need to use your phone.

Contact the carrier you intend to change. Many carriers are happy to unlock your phone if you’re switching from one of their competitors. Call the carrier you want to exchange and try to negotiate if you can use their service to help unlock your phone.

  • Make sure your new service provider uses the same type of network that your phone supports. In the US, GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile) and CDMA (Sprint, Verizon) are the two main types of networks. In Vietnam, all major carriers (including MobiFone, VinaPhone, Viettel, VietnamMobile) operate GSM networks.

Find the code for your Samsung phone. If the phone has been out for a while, the unlock code is generally provided by the manufacturer. Look for the phone model online to see if there is a code. With newer phone models, it’s almost impossible to find the code.

Find your phone’s IMEI/MEID number. You need to provide this unique identifier when requesting the unlock code. Open the calling app and use the keypad to dial *# 06# . A 15-digit code will appear on the screen.

  • Make a note of this code so you can easily re-enter it later.

Find a reputable unlocking service. There are many companies out there that claim to be able to unlock phones for a fee. Because you’re going to pay to unlock your phone, make sure the unlocking service is well-reviewed and has a solid guarantee.

Request code. You will be asked to provide your IMEI/MEID number along with contact and payment information. The amount to be paid will depend on the phone model and code retrieval speed.

  • It can take up to a few days to retrieve the code as these companies often rely on a relationship with the carrier.
  • When you enter your phone’s information into the service, you need to make sure that these are 100% correct in order to receive a code that works with the device again.

Insert a new SIM card. After receiving the unlock code, power off your phone and take out your old carrier’s SIM card. Then insert the new carrier’s SIM. The SIM tray is usually located behind the battery or on the side of the device.

  • See more instructions online on how to find and remove the SIM card.

Power on the phone. You will be asked to enter a code to connect your phone to the mobile network. Enter the code you received from the unlocking service.

  • You may have to be in the coverage area of the new network for the code to appear. This process will vary depending on the device.
