Emojis are a fun and simple way to express emotions that help add color to words. The two prominent emoji “styles” are Western and Eastern styles. They make up most of the emojis you still see online. There are also “emoji”, a set of expressive visual characters. Although emoji is not generally supported, it is more interesting than old-fashioned emoji.

Understand how to type “Western” emoji. Emojis of this kind were developed by early chat services such as IRC and AOL, especially in North America and Europe. They are usually written horizontally, from left to right, with the top “head” always on the left side.

  • Western emojis tend to focus on the “whole face” and are more literal than the “Eastern” emoji.
  • Western emoticons are usually written in Latin letters and are distinguished by single characters.

  • Windows – Press ⊞ Win + R and type charmap to open the Character Map. Use the menu above to switch fonts. Find and download a font called “Code2000” to approach oriental symbols. You can refer to more articles online on how to install fonts.
  • Mac – Click on the Apple menu and select “System Preferences”. Click on “Keyboard” and then select the “Keyboard” tab, then check the “Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar” item.
