Vomiting is a very common condition that almost everyone experiences from time to time. There are many causes of vomiting, from stomach upset and food poisoning to overeating, strong odors or pregnancy. Despite the discomfort, the condition usually resolves within 24 hours without the need for medical attention. If you, your child, or a loved one is vomiting, there are things you can do to ease the symptoms and put your body at ease. If vomiting does not go away after 24 hours, you should call your doctor right away for further instructions.

Stop taking all medications until the nausea has passed. The drug can irritate the stomach and cause vomiting. Add ginger to food and water. Ginger is very helpful in fighting nausea and vomiting. Fresh ginger is most effective, as many commercial products do not contain much ginger.   • Ginger-flavored soft drinks also help you relieve nausea, but they do not contain much natural ginger.
  • You can make your own ginger tea, but keep in mind that hot drinks can make you more nauseous. You can add ice to the tea to chill before drinking to soothe the stomach.
  • The maximum dosage of ginger supplements is 4 g (about ¾ teaspoon). If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, the maximum dose is 1 g per day.

Try acupressure to relieve nausea. Acupressure is a technique that acts on certain points on the body by gently pressing. The P6 point (internal point) on the inside of the wrist when stimulated can help control nausea and vomiting. Use aromatherapy with mint to drown out other odors. This is an aromatherapy inhaler extracted from herbs, especially mint, which has the effect of reducing nausea.
