Define control. Think about what taking control of your life means to you. Is it the ability to influence one’s destiny, regulate one’s expressions, control negative behavior, or simply a desire for more willpower? Self-control requires you to work through many challenges, including self-awareness, building confidence, and taking action. Identify what you want more control over, and this will help focus your energy. [1] X Research Source

Accept yourself . The first step to success in anything is accepting your strengths and limitations. Empathize with yourself. Accept not only the advantages but also the disadvantages. Always work on improving the things you don’t like or struggle with.

  • Understand the reasons for your actions and forgive yourself. Self-reflection is a healthy and positive act. Self-criticism and guilt are futile behaviors that do more harm than good. So if you find yourself acting in those patterns, tell yourself that there are healthier ways to deal with the problem. Understand that you did your best, and repeat this over and over. • Think of three points where you are currently performing excellently and receiving a lot of compliments or that you are really excited about. Write them down and put them in places you frequent, like the bathroom or stick them on the fridge.

Consider your standards of values. You need to know your standards in order to properly prioritize what needs to be prioritized. Think about the important factors and people in your life – is it freedom, happiness, justice, money or family? Write down a list of your value beliefs (at least 10), in order from most important to least important. [3] X Research Sources

  • Think about what you’re doing to support each of the standards, and how they’re impacting your life. One thing that can help is to think about what someone you respect would think about your standards and whether this would change those standards.
  • Identify the things you need to do to boost your self-esteem and bring about life satisfaction. Think about the person you aspire to be and that person’s personality, way of thinking, behavior patterns, and life.

Cultivate good qualities. When you cultivate good qualities and character, you will take better control of your life, because those qualities will encourage you to achieve your goals and develop the traits you desire. The good qualities that serve this purpose are courage, prudence, wisdom, and self-discipline.

  • Having courage means putting all your strength and willpower into accomplishing what you need or want, despite all obstacles. It could be taking risks in business, performing well in school, or some selfless act that sets you apart. Courage is the opposite of fear, and you can develop this quality by allowing yourself to be vulnerable, acknowledging your fears, confronting the things that frighten you, and frequently having action is considered courageous. [4] X Research Sources
  • Prudence (moderate or moderate) is important, as it helps you maintain perspective, composure, and self-control. For example, curbing arrogance by being humble can help keep your relationships from being ruined.
  • Wisdom encourages you to gather knowledge and experience to use information for a higher purpose such as serving humanity or living a noble life. You will accumulate wisdom through trial, error, new experiences and the search for knowledge.
  • Self-discipline is a must in taking control of your life, because it allows you to turn all your intentions into action. This skill is developed over time with practice as you complete each small goal on your way to the larger perspective. Always imagine your goals as if you had already achieved them. Practice self-control every day by making small changes and sticking to them, even as simple as opening every door with your left hand. Success in such small changes will make it easier for big changes to be implemented. [5] X Trusted Source American Psychpogical Association Go to Source

Identify what motivates you. Many of us have a passion – something that we enjoy and that leads us to success. Think about what you would like to do in life if nothing stood in the way. If you can’t figure that out, maybe you need to write down your favorite activities that make you feel good. Consider what inspires you, your skills and talents.

Set goals. Find out what you really want this year – a house, a good job or a healthy relationship? Write down each goal, then come up with ideas to help you accomplish that goal. Capture those ideas with positive action resolutions, such as, “I will save the money.” Then go over all of your goals and ideas and identify three goals and three action statements for each thing you’re going to do. [6] X Research Source

  • Avoid statements like, “I don’t want to be shy and lonely anymore.” This sentence does not define the direction or action required to achieve your goal. Instead, you could try writing something like, “I’m going to build more relationships this year by taking every invitation to a social event and asking a friend to do something about it at least every week. once”.
  • Consider options. Don’t judge yourself by your problems, but by the opportunities that come your way. [7] X Source of Research If you’re struggling to make ends meet, focus on how to get a raise, extra income, or change careers instead of thinking about running out of money. .
  • If you want, you can set goals according to many different areas of your life such as work, health, relationships, etc. Break them down into short-term goals (day, week) and other goals. longer-term goals (months, years). For example, eat 6 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, exercise four times a week, or lose 5 kg this year.
  • Don’t be afraid to tweak your goals and ideas as a while and you see what works and what doesn’t. The main thing is that you are in control of your life and the path you are headed.

Emotional control. Emotions can be wonderful experiences, but inappropriate emotional expression can interfere with your ability to accomplish your goals and damage your relationships. You need to learn to understand, process, and respond to your feelings in a healthy and productive way. [8] X Research Sources

  • Use deep breathing and relaxation techniques to calm yourself down before saying or doing something in response to a situation.
  • Inhale for five seconds, hold your breath for five seconds or more, and exhale for another five seconds. Repeat until you feel the body’s reactions such as increased heart rate, and less stress.

Let go of the burden. Sometimes it’s hard to let go of negative thoughts or experiences – you may have the feeling that they represent you, or they are so familiar that you dread not having them, or simply you. don’t know how to let go. You need to learn to understand that you don’t belong to those issues, and that they don’t determine who you are or how you choose to be in the present. Learning to let go of past burdens will help you actively find solutions, broaden your horizons, and take control of your life. [10] X Research Source

  • Practice mindfulness. One way to free yourself from the past is to focus on the present. When you practice mindfulness, you are actively focusing on the present moment – how you feel in your body, feeling the sun on your face – that is just observing. [11] X Research Sources Instead of evaluating your (or yourself) thoughts, you simply observe and record them. [12] X Research Source The mindfulness method requires practice, but its benefits can be enormous.
  • Redemption. If you are haunted by past mistakes, the act of atonement will help you feel better. [13] X Research Source If you feel guilty about teasing your sister, you can now meet her (in person or by mail), and apologize for your behavior. Give her a chance to talk about how she feels. Note that making amends may not mend a broken relationship, but it can help you forget the past and move on. [14] X Research Source

Has independence . If you depend on others for your feelings, your lifestyle, or need someone to tell you what to do, then you have no control over your life. Learn to solve problems on your own and take the time to think and reflect. Only ask for help when you really need it and learn from those who have helped you so you can handle more on your own next time. [15] X Research Source

  • Learn how to meet your needs. Find a job so you can support yourself if you separate from someone. Then move out and live an independent life.
  • Ask yourself, “What do I want to do today?” and decide for yourself. Think about the things you love and are passionate about. Don’t rely on others telling you what to do or like. [16] X Research Source

Neat living . Organization is important when you want to take control of your life. If things are chaotic in your home and in your mind, it can be difficult to know where to start dealing with a problem. Try to keep things tidy at home and at work so you don’t have to deal with a mess, and remember to put things back in their places. Make lists, use a calendar, and often make decisions right away instead of postponing things. [17] X Research Source

  • Read documents, emails, and letters right away and get to work on them right away, whether it’s throwing them in the trash, paying your bills, or replying to messages.
  • Schedule daily tasks throughout the week such as shopping, family time, appointments, to-do lists, etc.
  • Throw away things you haven’t used in the past six months. Don’t keep one because you can use it in the future.
  • Only treat one place at a time, especially small places like cabinets to clean up first. Then move on to arranging other places.

Take the time to take care of your appearance. Putting in the effort to take care of your appearance in the eyes of others can make you feel more satisfied and in control. Get a haircut, dye your hair, or get a new hairstyle. Buy or borrow some new clothes and remember to smile whenever possible. Take care of yourself. Pay attention to what you eat, how much you eat, and try to exercise every day. To increase your strength, you need to eat small portions of energy-rich foods throughout the day (every 3 hours). These foods include lean proteins (meat, beans) and complex carbs (whole grains, fruits, and vegetables). Avoid foods high in sugar, high in fat, foods that are too processed or too high in salt, which can make you feel unwell and lack the energy to control your life.

Pay attention to sleep. When you’re tired, you won’t have the energy to maintain control or to do extra work outside of what you have to do. Taking control of your life requires you to be alert and aware of what is going on, to know where you want to go. Sleep on demand until you feel refreshed when you wake up – usually about 8 hours. Reduce work load. If you feel like you’re constantly running against time in an endless race to fulfill your obligations, and you’re rushing into or getting caught up in different directions, now is the time to reevaluate your goals. your priority work. • You can totally admit that you took on too much and couldn’t complete every task as well as if you took on less. Often your fear of the consequences that come when you give up on a project is just an unfounded fear.
  • Minimize distractions. Avoid or eliminate things that get in the way of you doing the things you need to do. Start immediately. After taking a few minutes to yourself, now is the time to focus on the most important tasks. Solve it now to avoid the daily stress. Morning is the time when you are full of energy, so it is also easier to focus and work better. As a result, you can complete a larger amount of work.

  • Try to get work or important tasks done in the first hour or two in the morning.

Focus on one thing at a time. Determine which tasks are most important to get done first and focus on getting them done. Multitasking reduces productivity and prolongs the first task by 25%. That’s because you shift your focus from one thing to another which takes up extra time. Don’t worry about having to complete all the tasks that need to be done for the day, you should maintain control and execute each task sequentially with steady progress. [21] X Research Source

Stop wasting time. We live in a world surrounded by too many distractions. However, you need to know that you are the one who chooses to either focus on your work or get distracted by motion games, TV, Facebook or text messages. Instead of going home and swooping on the TV to pass the time, do something more productive or do what needs to be done to stay in control of the present moment. Exercising, pursuing a hobby, or cultivating relationships are enjoyable and productive pastimes. [22] X Research Source

Rest. We have enough energy to focus for about 90 minutes at a time. After that time we start to get tired and not be able to work well. You should focus continuously for about 90 minutes at a time, then rest for at least a few minutes. This allows the mind to rest, the body to be energized and the spirit to relax. Develop good habits. When willpower is limited, it’s important that you don’t rely on it as the only way to self-control. Develop sequences that you repeat at the same time each day to find it easier to act or think a certain way in other situations. For example, at home you could repeat the sentence, “I’m calm,” as you say the rosary. Then the next time you are faced with a stressful situation, you can pull out the beads from your pocket and feel calm.

Act. You can have all of your goals in life, but you’ll never get anywhere without taking action to achieve them. Do whatever it takes to get where you want to be. Take small steps but make sure to do it every day, you will get closer to the final destination. It could be everyday obligations, practicing positive thinking, organizing documents or anything else.

    • Don’t get so caught up in the future that you can’t enjoy life in the present moment. Enjoy the journey towards your goal, and remember to be grateful for everything you have achieved right now.
    • Do your best, no matter if it’s a project, a test, or just entertainment. Hard-working achievements make you feel good about yourself and motivate you to succeed even more.
  • Advice

    • If today screwed up, just remember that tomorrow is a new day. You can always try again the next day to take more control of your life.
    • The act of helping others can make you feel good about yourself. If you have time, find somewhere to volunteer. Animal shelters, charity kitchens and schools are always in need of help.

    Warning

    • You are a separate individual, so don’t try to be someone else when trying to take control of your life. Be yourself, but try to be the leader and role model that everyone should admire.
