Gardening is fun and satisfying work, even if you’re just growing a fern that doesn’t have fragrant flowers. This article will give you many tips on how to plant a tree so that it stays healthy.
Steps
Create the right environment
- Before planting a garden or collecting another potted plant, do some research online or ask a nursery professional what conditions the plant you’re planning to grow requires.
- Find out in which area the plant grows best. It’s not that you can’t grow non-native plants, but it’s usually much easier to grow plants that thrive in the climate and soil in your area.
- With houseplants, you should maintain a relatively constant temperature. If you are cold, the tree is as cold as you are. Do not leave your beloved plants in drafty places. If you feel cold when standing in front of the wind, so will the trees. [1] X Research Source
- If you grow your plant in a pot, you should check the roots once a year to see if the roots are overcrowded. If so, replant the plant to a larger pot to stimulate new growth. [2] X Research Source
- If you don’t want to move the plant to a larger pot, you can trim the roots and replant it in the old pot.
- Observe your yard before buying a tree. Notice how the sun hits different areas of the yard before you decide what plants to plant.
- If you plan to plant a garden, arrange it so that the garden is partly shaded and partly in the sun to accommodate a variety of plants.
- Most houseplants will do well in partial shade, and this is great because indoor environments often don’t receive full sun. Remember this before you decide to place the potted plant in a place with direct sunlight for many hours to prevent the plant from being exposed to the sun for too long.
- Plants are thin and reaching for the light which means they need more sun exposure.
Provides water and nutrients to plants
- Besides figuring out your plant’s water needs, there’s a trick to helping you know when and how much to water: poke your finger into the soil about 2-3cm deep. Usually you should water your plants when the soil is a bit dry. Water just enough so that the water comes out a little through the drainage hole in the bottom of the pot. Avoid over-watering as the plant will become waterlogged.
- Make sure the pot has good drainage, otherwise the roots may experience a condition called “root waterlogged”. This condition can have a negative impact on the crop.
- Succulents and plants adapted to arid climates typically require less water than plants that live in wet areas. You need to allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
- Seedlings usually have higher water requirements than mature plants. You need to keep the seedlings moist continuously until they grow a few tens of centimeters above the ground.
- Fastidious plants like orchids often require higher water quality, as they are sensitive to chemicals found in tap water. In this case, you need to use distilled or spring water instead of tap water.
- Find out what type of soil is best for the plants you’re growing. You should test the soil before planting any plants. You can take a soil sample and bring it to your local agricultural development office to have them try it on.
- Consider using compost. Vegetable and fruit residues that are composted will form a fertile soil rich in nutrients for most crops. You should also be aware that some plants like wildflowers actually prefer barren soil, so you should do your research before fertilizing. You can use blood meal, decaying poultry manure or fish protein fertilizer to fertilize plants. [6] X Research Source
Apply tips to help plants grow lush
- For example, every Saturday, you could start your day by checking out all the houseplants, or take a walk around the garden every day or every other day before you go to work.
- Crushed eggshells are great for plants like peppers and tomatoes, helping them to produce delicious and flavorful fruit.
- Eggshells also act as insecticides, as they prevent naked slugs and other pests from attacking the plant. [7] X Research Sources
Advice
- If you’re not sure how often or how much to water, you can purchase a liquid density meter. This tool is quite cheap and available at major stores. Basically, it’s a metal probe that sticks into the ground where a plant is grown and indicates whether the plant is dry or wet, etc….
- If you want, you can buy a healthy and sturdy plant at home, and when you get home you just water the plant, providing it with sunlight and nutrients.
- If you really don’t have a knack for growing plants, you can buy fake plants – no one will know they’re not real! Fake plants come in large and small sizes!
- Make sure to provide the plant with plenty of water and sunlight.
- Try to repot the plant. Choose a large pot of brightly colored plants, and if you don’t have a watering device, you can use a water bottle to punch a few holes in the cap. However, it is best to start growing plants in flower pots or specialized pots for plants.
- There are some pretty red plants. If you’re not confident about growing difficult plants, do your research first and see if you can take care of them. If you love plants that are difficult to grow, you must learn how to care for them and remember to do it right!
