Take a photo from above. Photos taken from above create good angles. Because it accentuates the eyes, making the face and neck look slimmer. [1] X Research Source

  • Taking pictures from below can make some people look powerful but it often makes the chin and nose stand out, which is often not good for some people. [2] X Research Source
  • However, it is best not to raise the camera too high so that the image is not distorted.
  • Take the camera away and place it slightly above your eyes. Then take a photo.

Find the dark corner of the face. Look at your face in a mirror or camera (or take a test shot) and find out which corner of your face looks darker when it’s away from the light. Take a photo from that dark angle for collages and a slimmer face. This method may not work when shooting in direct sunlight. [3] X Research Sources

Artistically photographed. Instead of shooting in the traditional way with your face looking straight ahead, try taking photos in a different way. Here are a few ways you can try:

  • Take a side view of the face.
  • Half face shot – left or right is fine
  • Bring the lens to the eyes, mouth or cheeks

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/c/c3/Take-Flattering-Photos-of-Yourself-Step-4-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Take- Flattering-Photos-of-Yourself-Step-4-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/c/c3/Take-Flattering-Photos-of- Yourself-Step-4-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Take-Flattering-Photos-of-Yourself-Step-4-Version-3.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,” bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Don’t align the face in the center of the photo. Good photos often follow the so-called rule of thirds. This means your eyes will take up 1/3 of the image from top to bottom and to one side of the image. This creates an interesting photo and a nice angle.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/2/28/Take-Flattering-Photos-of-Yourself-Step-5-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Take- Flattering-Photos-of-Yourself-Step-5-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/2/28/Take-Flattering-Photos-of- Yourself-Step-5-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Take-Flattering-Photos-of-Yourself-Step-5-Version-3.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,” bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Move the camera away from the face. The camera lens will distort the things that are close to it in the image. A selfie is usually taken by holding the camera at arm’s length from the face so it will make the nose bigger, not a style that everyone likes.

  • If you want a close-up shot, get the lens up close to the right ratio, then take it far away, or shoot from a distance and then crop the image to look like it was taken up close.
  • If your camera has a self-timer, set it up somewhere, set a timer, and step in front of the camera. The photo will look much better.

Use your phone’s rear camera. While the front camera usually makes it easier to take selfies, the phone’s rear camera is better quality and will produce better photos. [4] X Research Sources

Place a mirror in front of the camera. The mirror makes it easy to see how you’re looking, so if you put the mirror in front of your camera or phone, you’ll be able to see the frame of the photo you’re about to take. Be careful not to laugh awkwardly!

Have someone take a photo for you. While this isn’t always possible, it’s better to have someone take your pictures. You’ll be able to focus on what you’re doing and posing without worrying about holding the camera and pressing the shutter button.

  • Ask a friend to help you take pictures. They’ll tease you, but they’ll probably ask you to take a picture too.
  • If you’re going to an event or an activity, ask someone to take a photo for you (and your friends if they’re there too). Just make sure the person being asked is trustworthy so you don’t have to worry about losing your phone or camera.

Avoid creating images with a double chin. One of the disadvantages of photography is the double chin. Often, double chin can be avoided if you keep your neck high and your chin away from your body. [5] X Research Source This will feel weird and uncomfortable, but it looks better in pictures.

Chest puff. Crooked shoulders and bad posture are unflattering and unflattering, so stick out your chest and straighten your back. This will make you look sober, your neck will be longer, and your photos will look better. You can also tilt your shoulders one way or the other when taking a photo instead of keeping your shoulder perpendicular to the camera.

Adjust your attitude. Take and share a lot of portraits with a serious face that will make you look serious or boring. Try taking silly pictures. Usually when you are relaxed and happy, you will get a good photo.

Tilting or leaning. Instead of posing stiffly in the photo, try tilting your face or body slightly. Try tilting with both sides to find the “nice angle”. [6] X Research Source Leaning in for a full body shot will make you look slimmer and flatter your curves. [7] X Research Sources

Do not look directly at the camera. Even if you have beautiful eyes, try not to look directly at the camera to create interesting photos.

  • You can still accentuate your eyes by opening them wide, looking up or looking away from the camera.
  • Remember to look away from the camera. If you just look slightly away from the lens, it will look like you don’t know where the camera is. If you look out in a direction about 30cm away from the camera, it looks like you are trying to pose like that.

Express emotions. Real emotions are often shown on the face. [8] X Research Sources Fake smiles are often not beautiful. If you want a smiling photo, think about something that makes you really happy or something funny before taking the photo.

  • If you want to look happy, smile with your eyes, not just with your mouth. For this to work, you have to be really happy. [9] X Research Source
  • Express different emotions if you want melancholy, seductive, sad, pensive, angry or real emotions at that moment. Be honest.

Choose the right outfit. If you’re shooting portraits for a specific purpose, think about what you’ll wear when taking the photo. [10] X Research Source

  • For a career-related photo or a profile picture for a business social media site, choose professional attire, courtesy, and a neat hairstyle.
  • For dating site photos, you need to wear colorful, fun clothes but not too revealing (because you will look like you are trying too hard to be attractive). Keep your hairstyle natural but show that you care about your appearance.
  • With social media, show what you want people to see about you. Outfit options will vary, but unless you want to show off your 30+km hiking track record, a dirty t-shirt is definitely not the best choice when it comes to selfies.

Avoid taking pictures of the speculum. The duckbill photo – with the lips pouting – has become meaningless and is no longer a popular choice when it comes to taking selfies. [11] X Research Source Instead, try more beautiful facial expressions.

Find natural light. Natural light is very effective in photography. However, direct sunlight, especially at noon when the sun is standing, will not be beautiful. [12] X Research Source

  • If possible, take pictures on a cloudy day.
  • If shooting indoors, try shooting near a window with natural light (but not direct sunlight) shining in.
  • If you must use unnatural light, avoid fluorescent and top-down lighting for best effect.
  • If light coming in from above (either natural or artificial) cannot be avoided, use an on-camera flash to add more light to help remove shadows under the nose or eyes.

Check the background. Don’t become an internet celebrity for taking and sharing selfies with an inappropriate background.

  • Messy bathrooms and bedrooms aren’t suitable for selfies, but there are still plenty of people who choose to do so. A photo with a toilet in the background is never good. [13] X Research Source
  • If you’re not shooting outdoors, look for a neutral background like a white wall or a window.
  • If shooting outdoors, remember to include the surrounding scenery in the selfie so that the photo says more.

Consider creating photo frames. You can make photos more interesting by creating a photo frame. [14] X Research Source Here are some suggestions for framing:

  • Taken at the entrance.
  • Use both arms outstretched to hold the camera instead of just one.
  • Stand between two objects such as trees or bushes outdoors.
  • Place your hand below or above your chin to create an outline under the photo.

Crop the unsightly places. The parts that are not beautiful in the photo can be cut out. If you are taking a photo with one hand, it is best to cut off the hand part because it looks very large. If you see tangled hair, cut it off. People don’t need to see the original photo you took in the first place, so don’t be afraid to edit it before sharing.

Blur the photo. While some people want their photos ‘not’ to be blurry, sometimes making them slightly blurry makes for a dramatic photo. By blurring other areas and keeping only the central part of the image, you’ll make the viewer focus on what you need to see and hide other parts like the unsightly background or the unflattering image area.
  • Advice

    • Try taking pictures in different rooms so you know which room has the best light.
    • Use photo editing software with a ‘light retouch’ effect to help you cover up the background and make the skin perfect.
    • There’s nothing more pointless than showing off your long arms when taking a photo. Try using the self-timer and adjust the camera position. You can also try with multiple angles so you don’t have to show off your outstretched arms.
    • Take multiple photos so you can choose your favourite.
    • Let the legs show. A photo with your feet on a wobbly background can tell your appearance at an interesting event without having to worry about your appearance.
    • Look in the mirror before taking a photo and edit the places you want to change.
    • If you don’t like a certain part of your face, shift your focus elsewhere. For example, if you don’t like your lips, accentuate your eyes with a light eyeshadow.
    • Place the phone on the floor or another flat object by leaning on something and sitting down. Make sure the phone screen and camera are facing you. Turn on the countdown time and pose. Look away from the camera, and if you have a nice smile smile, if not, don’t.
