This is an article on how to swap faces by taking contours on one face and integrating it into another face in Photoshop. For this tutorial, you’ll need photos of two people whose faces are similar in size and looking in the same direction. In addition, you also need to use Photoshop CS6 or later.

Choose facial contours

Open two photos. Open the photo of the two faces you want to swap in the following way:

  • Click File (File)
  • Click Open
  • Hold down Ctrl (on Windows) or command (on Mac)
  • Click both photos.

Select the first photo. Click the tab at the top to select the photo you want to preprocess. This will be a photo of the person you want to “borrow” the facial contours of.

Select Lasso Top. Click the noose icon at the top of the toolbar on the left side of the screen. If you don’t see Lasso Top, you need to first click and hold Ppygonal Lasso Top, and then select Lasso Top.

Draw the contours of the face. Click and drag Lasso Top around the eyebrows and eyes, nose, mouth, and even the wrinkles associated with those lines. Make sure the end of the lasso pick is in series with the position you started with. The selected section will be highlighted with a flashing dotted line.

Copy the selected part. You can do this in several ways:

Select the second photo. Click on the tab above to select the second image as the face that you want to merge with the first face.

Paste the selected part. This will paste the copied outline from the first image into a new layer on the second image. Paste as follows:

Transform the face to match the background face. Squeeze or stretch the image to align the eyes and mouth with the facial contours of the background image. You can:

  • Zoom in or out of the photo by dragging the corners.
  • Stretch or squeeze the image by dragging the edges of the image.
  • Rotate the image by holding the mouse outside the corners and dragging the mouse.
  • Move the image by clicking inside the cell and dragging the mouse.
