However, if the torrent does not have enough uploads to complete the download, you cannot make changes.
Steps
Apply general methods
- If the torrent has almost no uploads, you cannot download the complete torrent.
- You can pause torrenting by right-clicking the torrent and selecting Pause .
- Right click on the torrent.
- Move the mouse pointer to Bandwidth Allocation .
- Click High .
- If you share your internet connection with one or more other people, torrent when you know they’re not downloading or using a streaming service.
- If you can’t do this, place the computer as close to the router (or vice versa) as possible.
- Note, torrenting illegal files can get your IP address blacklisted (along with other offenses).
Speed up on uTorrent and BitTorrent
- If uTorrent is not available, you can download and install it from https://www.utorrent.com/.
- You can visit http://www.bittorrent.com/ to download and install BitTorrent, if you don’t already have it on your computer.
- Click the General tab.
- Check the box “Prevent standby if there are active torrents”.
- Click Apply .
- Click the Connection tab.
- Check the “Enable UPnP port mapping” box.
- Click Apply .
- Click the Bandwidth tab.
- Look for the “Maximum upload rate” heading near the top of the window.
- Enter 500 in the box to the right of the “Maximum upload rate” heading.
- Make sure the “Global Rate Limit Options” box is checked.
- Click Apply
- Enter 150 in the “Global maximum connections” field.
- Enter 100 in the “Maximum connections per torrent” field.
- Enter a number between 3 and 5 in the “Upload slots per torrent” field.
- Click the Queueing tab.
- Increase the value in the “Maximum number of active downloads” box.
- Click Apply .
- You may have to close and reopen uTorrent or BitTorrent for the setting change to take full effect.
Advice
- Many internet service providers track users’ illegal activity, including illegal torrenting. You can avoid this by choosing legitimate downloads, or using a VPN in some cases.
