How to Soften Slime

Slime – a stretchy and shiny toy that makes funny sounds, great for stress relief. However, when you take the slime out of its container, you discover it’s as hard as a rock. Don’t worry, you can apply several methods to get slime back to its original state.

Use basic methods to soften slime

Add a little water. Too simple, right? But it is very effective because some slimes can be recovered this way. Put the slime in a bowl and add some water. You only need to add a tablespoon of water. Then knead until the slime is soft. ^{[1] X Research Source}

Remember that water can make or break slime. Remember to only add a little water if you don’t want the slime to wobble.

Add a little hand sanitizer. Another way to soften slime is to add a drop or two of hand sanitizer. You can choose any brand. Put the slime in a bowl and add hand sanitizer. Use a spoon to stir the hand sanitizer into the slime. Then you can knead until the slime is soft. Soften slime with lotion (moisturizer). Moisturizing lotion keeps your skin soft and does the same for slime. Let check it out! Just add a tablespoon or two of lotion to the bowl (equivalent to 4 or 5 sprays if you’re getting the product from the spray nozzle). Add some water and stir both ingredients well. Now comes the most interesting part. Place the slime in a bowl and press into the mixture. Add more glue. If you make slime using a recipe that uses glue, Borax, laundry detergent, or liquid starch, adding more glue can help restore the slime. Just add a tablespoon of glue at a time and knead until the slime is soft. ^{[4] X Research Sources}

Remember to use glue like the one found in slimes. For example, don’t add milk glue to transparent slimes.

Soften slime with heat

Soak the slime in warm water. Pour some warm water into the bowl and place the slime in it. You can use your hands to rotate the slime in the water. Leave the slime in the water for about a minute. Heat the slime in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Remove the slime from the water and squeeze. You need to make the slime dry. Place the slime in a microwaveable bowl and place it in the oven to heat for about 10 seconds, then remove the slime from the microwave and wait for about a minute for the slime to cool down. Add some moisturizing lotion to soften the slime. Use a tablespoon or two of lotion. Lotion of any brand will do. If you use a scented moisturizer, the slime will smell that way too. If the slime seems too runny, add a little more thickener. The thickener can be whatever you used to make the original slime, such as half a teaspoon of Borax dissolved in a cup of filtered water.
