Book glue or binder glue can help you reattach pages that have come off the book. You can also use this glue to seal the gap that appears between the spine and the inside of the book. Spine tape is a great material for re-attaching book covers that have begun to come loose.

Buy acid-free book glue or spine glue. Almost every craft store sells book glue, usually in small tubes. Be sure to buy acid-free glue: acid-based glue can cause pages to loosen or corrode the spine. [1] X Research Source
Take out the long equipment. Set loose pages to one side to avoid glue. Make sure to put them in the correct order. You certainly don’t want the pages to be misplaced by accidentally pasting them in the wrong order! [2] X Research Source

Carefully align the top and bottom ends of each sleeve so that they are level with the pages that are still attached to the book. Gather materials and tools. You will need book glue, a knitting needle or stick (for applying the glue), wax paper, and a flat piece of plastic. Place the book on the board, above the knitting needles aligned along the book hinge. Repeat this with another knitting needle placed above the book hinge and another board on top. Fix broken book hinges
Remove the hinge. The hinges that are still attached to the book with threads will be more difficult to fix, so you should separate them for easy handling. Trim off threads or loose pages so that the inside of the book is neat and tidy. [14] X Research Source
Cut a single row of spine tape. You can find this tape at many craft stores. Cut the binding tape to the length of the book’s pages. Do not measure the ribbon according to the length of the cover, as the inside is usually shorter than the cover, and you will cut the ribbon too long. [15] X Research Source

Glue the tape to the inside of the book and the spine of the book. Hold the dry part of the tape and align it so that the thread on the ribbon aligns with the edge of the inside of the book. Apply glue to the other two pieces of tape. After applying glue to the tape, gently raise the book cover so that the edge of the cover coincides with the seam of the spine tape. [20] X Research Source
Tape the spine to part of the tape. This tape will lie parallel to the spine of the book, between the spine and the inside of the book. When you pull up the cover of the book, the spine will be close to this tape. [21] X Research Source

Advice
- A board (wider than the book) and 2-4 bricks will help you block and keep the book flat much better than wrapping an elastic band.
- When repairing a book, you should start with the most severely damaged part and then move on to the lightest part. If the spine isn’t sticky, reinforcing the corners or gluing loose pages will just be futile.
Warning
- Never use packing tape or fabric tape to stick books. The packing tape will come off within 3 years, and the cloth tape will melt and damage the book. You also shouldn’t use clear tape: the adhesive will come off after a few years.
- Do not attempt to repair rare or precious books, as otherwise you will cause permanent damage and reduce the value of the book. Go online to find someone who specializes in old book repair to help restore the book.
