Brush ink that your child playfully draws on his or her body or that you accidentally get on your hand when writing is very difficult to remove. Luckily, there are a few simple tricks that make it quick and easy to remove or fade ink stains using everyday household items. Start from Step 1 below:
Steps
Use products containing chemicals
- Dip a cotton ball in isopropyl alcohol and press on the ink stain on the skin for a few seconds, then wipe it with the cotton ball and repeat until the ink stain disappears. Do not rub to avoid skin irritation.
- Isopropyl alcohol is available in drugstores and you should look for products with 90% alcohol or higher.
- Dip a cotton ball in nail polish remover and use it to wipe the ink from the skin.
- You can hold the cotton ball in place for a while for the nail polish remover to work.
- Apply a generous amount of hand sanitizer to the ink-stained skin, and then use a towel, tissue, or cotton ball to scrub it off.
- You may need to do this process several times to completely remove the marker ink.
- Mix a standard strength bath detergent with water in a ratio of 1:7. Dip a cotton ball in the solution and apply it to the affected area.
- Bleach can irritate the skin, so do not use strong bleach solutions. Avoid using bleach on the face or other sensitive areas such as under the arms and bikini area; Not for use by infants or young children.
Using natural methods
- Measure out a teaspoon of coarse sea salt and mix it with enough water to make a paste. Gently rub the mixture on the affected skin area for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water.
- Sea salt will exfoliate the skin, removing the top layer of ink-stained skin. This method doesn’t remove the ink completely, but it will definitely help fade the ink stains.
- Apply a generous amount of extra virgin olive oil to the ink stain. Use a paper towel to rub the olive oil on your skin and you should see the ink stick to the towel.
- Like other natural methods, this doesn’t completely remove the ink stain, but it will help fade it considerably. Make sure to wash off residue from the oil with soap and water.
- Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with enough water to form a paste and rub it on your skin for 1-2 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
- Or you can mix baking soda with toothpaste in a 1:1 ratio to create a more effective mixture.
- Peel a ripe banana and then use the inside of the banana peel to rub the ink-stained skin in a circular motion.
- Rub for a few minutes, then wash your hands and pat dry. Repeat the process with another piece of banana peel.
- If you like, you can add a little baking soda or a few drops of tea tree oil to the water to increase the effect. However, bathing in a regular soapy foam bath is also effective enough.
- Try to keep the ink-stained skin in the hot water for as long as possible and use a sponge or loofah to scrub it off.
Use lotions and creams
- Apply a small amount of baby oil directly to the ink-stained skin and gently rub it with a damp cloth.
- You may need to repeat the process several times to completely remove the ink stain.
- Just apply or spray a little sunscreen on the ink-stained skin, let it soak for a few minutes, then wipe it off with a towel or face towel.
- Similar to other methods, you may need to apply and wipe the sunscreen several times to completely remove the ink stain.
- Squeeze a small amount of toothpaste (any type) directly onto the ink-stained skin and then rub the cream into the skin with your fingers. Toothpaste effectively exfoliates the skin, thereby helping to remove the top ink stain.
- Next, pour some alcohol-based mouthwash on your skin and use a damp cloth to rub the water into the skin. Similar to other alcohol-based products, alcohol-based mouthwashes help dissolve ink stains.
- Apply a generous amount of shaving cream to the ink-stained skin and let it soak for 1-2 minutes. Use a damp cloth to rub shaving cream on your skin.
- Similarly, you may need to repeat the process several times to completely remove the ink stain.
Advice
- If the ink stain hasn’t been completely removed, don’t worry and don’t push yourself too hard if you’re about to take a shower. If the ink stain is new enough, a bath will help remove the ink if you use a loofah or nail brush to scrub the stain (scrub gently as a nail brush can be painful). If it can’t be removed, at least the ink stain will fade significantly.
- Sometimes these tips don’t work. However, do not worry because the ink will fade or disappear when you take a bath. On the other hand, if the ink stain is fresh enough, you can rush to the water bath to wash it off right away. Although it cannot be completely washed off, most ink stains will fade.
Warning
- Scrubbing too hard can irritate the skin, causing dryness and rashes. Therefore, you should scrub gently and should not scrub too much.
- Be careful with sores or open wounds because they are very prone to irritation or infection. Products that contain alcohol or a mixture of salt and bleach can irritate the skin and cause pain if applied to an open wound.
- If you have an open wound or ink mark on your skin for surgery, the only safe option is to use olive oil or baby oil.
