Understand the lacing mechanism. A regular bra will have 2 horizontal fasteners that are fastened to the back. One lock has multiple hook holes. The other end has a pair of hooks to attach to the eyelet. To remove the bra, you must press the two ends of the clasp together and pull the hook out of the eyelet.

  • Sometimes you’ll come across bras that have only 1 eyelet and 1 hook, or 5 eyelets and 5 hooks. Standard bras usually have 2 to 3 eyelets and hooks, all of which are equally removable.
Some bras have front clasps. Although they are not commonly used, they are still available in the market. These bras have a cup attached to a hook in the front. So, if you want to unfasten a bra but can’t find the hook on the back, it’s likely a front-mounted bra.

Remove Someone’s Bra

Place one hand on the bottom of the zipper. One hand should be on the hook hole, the other hand should be on the hook. Zip the shirt slightly away from the wearer’s back so that you have room to remove the shirt.

  • If the person is facing you, you must remove your shirt without being able to see. Do not worry! Place one hand over each hanger so that one hand can feel the eyelet and the other hand feels the clasp. Push the hanger slightly away from the wearer’s back to allow room for action.

Push the two parts of the hanger towards each other to reduce the tightness of the hook. Think of this like locking your fingers – if you pull the two clasps apart, nothing will happen (other than you might tear their bra). Instead, the key to opening the shirt is to push the two zippers close together.
Slide the right side of the shirt (the part with the clasp) towards you. Hold the other end in place to remove the hook from the eyelet.

  • Usually you can only remove one hook, the other hook is still stuck in the eyelet, especially if you are facing the wearer, you will not be able to see the shirt. Don’t panic! Just focus on repeating the above movement with the other hanger.

Remove Bra with One Hand

Place your fingers on one end of the hanger and your thumb on the other end. Keep your finger and thumb very close to the zipper.

  • Similar steps can be taken when removing a shirt with one hand while the wearer is facing you (you won’t be able to see what you’re doing).
Squeeze the two zippers towards each other. You need to use your index finger, middle finger and thumb to do this. Imagine you are picking up a shirt with just your thumb and first two fingers. Squeeze the hanger in the same way.
Slide the right end (the part with the hanger) over the left strap. Doing so will remove the hook from the eyelet. It helps to press your fingers (if you are right-handed) or thumb (if you are left-handed) in front of the eyelet to keep them in place when unhooking.

Self Remove Bra

Place your hands behind your back, reaching your hands from the bottom up. Grab the hooks and eyelets and pull the strap away from your back to give you room to work.

  • If your hands are not very flexible or you think it would be easier to remove the hanger from the front, pull down the shoulder straps. Once you’ve pulled the cord down, turn the zipper forward. You’ll see what you’re doing, making it easier to take off your shirt.

Push the two waistbands towards each other as if they are “kissing” each other. This helps reduce the tension holding the straps together.
Slide the strap with the clasp out. Secure the lacing with the eyelet. This will remove the hanger from the eyelet.

Lock the shirt. It is usually located between the two cups. Buckles are usually made of plastic or metal with one side overlaid on the other end. When the buckle is left straight, it snaps into place and sticks.
Place one hand on each side of the zipper. Lift the lock edge up and towards you to release the lock. You can see 2 pieces of plastic or metal buckles come off.
  • Pull one side of the zipper up and the other side down. Bras are very diverse, so there will be many different types of buckles. If you pull one side of the lock and find it stuck, try changing sides. The two buckles must be separated in order to remove the bra.
  • Advice

    • Don’t be afraid to ask someone else to remove your bra for you. Usually they won’t mind, and learning a few tricks about undressing together can be more fun than struggling alone.
