Wash and steam your face before exfoliating. Steam will help reduce the appearance of pores by softening the skin and make it easier to remove blackheads with an exfoliating blend. [1] X Research Source

  • Prepare a large bowl, water and a clean towel.
  • Boil water. Wait for the water to cool down and then pour it into the bowl.
  • Place your face over the bowl of water and then cover your head with a towel to keep the steam from reaching your face.
  • Steam face for 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to bring your face too close to avoid the hot steam from burning your skin.
  • Wash your face with warm water and pat dry.
  • Steam your face several times a week, before exfoliating.
Exfoliate your nose with baking soda. Exfoliating is an important step to help remove dead skin cells, preventing cells from clogging pores that cause blackheads. Not only that, exfoliating also helps increase skin circulation and helps skin have a healthy glow.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl of mineral water to form a paste. Apply the mixture on the nose and massage gently to avoid causing skin damage. [2] X Research Source
  • Let the mixture dry for a few minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Repeat the exfoliation process 1-2 times per week.
  • Baking soda helps dry out blackheads and leaves skin looking brighter and cleaner.
  • You can add apple cider vinegar to the baking soda mixture. Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent and antibacterial. [3] X Research Sources
Use an oatmeal scrub. The mixture of oats, lemon juice and yogurt is very effective in removing blackheads. [4] X Research Sources

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of oats, 3 tablespoons of white yogurt with the juice of half a lemon.
  • Apply the mixture on your nose, leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off with warm water.
  • You can make an oatmeal scrub with honey and tomatoes. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with the juice of 4 tomatoes and a few tablespoons of oats.
  • Apply the mixture on your nose, leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with warm water.
  • Exfoliate with this mixture regularly, at least once a week.
Exfoliate dead cells with sugar. If possible, you should add Jojoba oil to your sugar scrub because Jojoba oil “mimics” sebum on the skin. Sebum is an oily substance produced by the body to prevent dry skin. [5] X Research Source If you don’t have Jojoba oil, you can use other oils like grapeseed, olive or sweet almond oil. [6] X Research Sources

  • Mix 4 tablespoons of oil into 1 cup of brown or white sugar in an airtight glass jar. Stirred.
  • Wet your face and then scoop the sugar mixture onto your fingers. Use the mixture to massage your nose and face in a circular motion.
  • Massage for 1-2 minutes and then wash your face with warm water.
  • Exfoliate with sugar no more than 2-3 times per week to avoid drying or irritating the skin.
  • Store the sugar mixture in an airtight glass jar in a dry, dark place for up to 2 months.

Use a clay mask. For a quality clay mask, you should use Bentonite clay (available online or in cosmetic stores). Bentonite clay is rich in minerals and has been used for centuries in the treatment of many ailments, mainly skin-related problems. When applying a clay mask, the skin will absorb these minerals, and the clay will suck out the blackheads. [7] X Research Sources

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay with water or apple cider vinegar. The mixture should be thick but still easy to apply to the skin.
  • Apply a thin layer of the mask with your fingers. Leave the mask on for 10-20 minutes for the clay to dry, depending on the texture of the mix. The dry mask will make you feel your face shrink. Some people will experience dryness or skin irritation if the clay mask is left on for too long, especially those with dry skin. You should adjust the drying time for the mask to suit your skin type.
  • Rinse off the mask with warm water and apply moisturizer to the nose area.
  • Apply the clay mask to your nose regularly, at least once a week, for effective results. [8] X Research Sources
Apply egg whites to your nose. Although the smell of raw eggs is slightly fishy, egg whites contain more nutrients and are less drying to the skin than other home remedies for blackheads. [9] X Research Source[10] X Research Source

  • Prepare 1 egg, tissue or toilet paper, small bowl and clean towel.
  • Separate the egg whites into a bowl.
  • Wash your face with your favorite cleanser.
  • Pat your face dry and then use your fingers to apply a thin layer of egg white to your nose.
  • Wait for the first layer to dry, then continue to apply the second layer of egg white to the nose. Wait for it to dry and then apply a third coat. Make sure the egg white layer is dry before applying the next layer.
  • Wait for the last layer of egg white to dry for about 15 minutes. Your face will feel a little tight. This is a good sign that egg whites are sticking to your nose and blackheads.
  • Dip a clean washcloth in warm water and gently rub the egg whites off your nose. Blot the water dry on the nose.

Make your own acne remover. Acne patches are made of adhesive materials and are applied to the nose or face. When you pull the peel off, you will pull both sebum and dead cells into the pores, thereby removing blackheads. Keep in mind that the strip does not prevent blackheads, but only helps remove them when blackheads appear. [11] X Research Source

  • Use milk and honey to make your own acne patches that don’t contain harmful chemicals or fragrances like store-bought peels.
  • Prepare 1 tablespoon of raw honey, 1 teaspoon of milk and 1 piece of clean cotton (from a clean t-shirt or towel).
  • Mix raw honey with milk in a microwaveable bowl. Put the mixture in the microwave to heat for about 5-10 seconds. Mix until evenly combined.
  • Check the temperature of the mixture to make sure it’s not too hot before applying a thin layer to your nose.
  • Place a cotton pad on your nose and press gently.
  • Wait for the mixture to dry for at least 20 minutes before removing the cloth.
  • Rinse your nose with cold water and pat it dry.
  • Use the peeler regularly to unclog pores.

Use a natural toner for your face. Toner is a great product to help remove dead skin cells from the face and reduce redness and inflammation, especially around the nose. You can use herbs with soothing properties like mint to soothe irritated skin. [12] X Research Source

  • Mix 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 3 tablespoons of crushed mint leaves in a small bottle. Store for about 1 week in a cool, dark place.
  • Strain the mixture to get water and then add 1 cup of filtered water. Store the toner in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
  • Every night, after washing your face, use a clean cotton ball to apply skin toner to the nose area.
  • Leave overnight or a few hours for sensitive skin.
  • Make sure to apply moisturizer to the skin of the nose area after applying the toner.

Beware of misinformation about blackheads. Part of the reason why you can’t simply wipe your blackheads off is because acne isn’t caused by a build-up of dirt. Instead, acne is caused by a buildup of dead skin cells/sebum, which then reacts with oxygen and turns black in the pores. [13] X Research Source

  • Similarly, you cannot shrink, tighten or unclog pores because pores are not muscle groups. They are simply small holes in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands on the body.
  • While some ingredients like lemon or mint can make pores look smaller, they don’t actually shrink.
  • Other factors such as genetics, age and sun exposure will affect pore size and there is no magic formula that can shrink pores.

Remove excess oil from the face. Wash your face no more than twice a day with a gentle, oil-free cleanser. In addition, you need to wash your face clean if you wear makeup every day because residual makeup can cause oil to accumulate on the skin. [14] X Research Source

  • Exfoliate your face with natural ingredients or a professional product, and use a natural toner or a commercial product every day.

Avoid letting your hair stick to your face and don’t touch your face with your hands. Hair can carry germs and bacteria to the face and/or nose. [16] X Research Source

  • Avoid touching your face or nose with your hands. Hands can carry dirt, germs, and bacteria onto the face and cause oil buildup, leading to blackheads.
