Look for signs of nipple irritation. Friction between skin and clothing is a common cause of sore nipples. This is a fairly common problem for athletes, and is often referred to as “runner’s nipple”. If this is the problem you are having, you will probably be aware of the following symptoms. [1] X Research Sources[2] X Research Sources

  • General pain or soreness.
  • Red swelling.
  • Dried.

Wash nipples with water and mild soap. Like any trauma to the skin, nipple friction can cause inflammation. To prevent this, you should wash the area with warm water and soap. Then, dry the skin. [3] X Research Sources

  • It is best to let your nipples dry naturally. If necessary, you can use a towel to dry. Rubbing will only increase irritation and pain.
  • Using disinfectants such as alcohol will make the infection worse.

Apply lanpin cream to the affected area. Lanpin is a product formulated to protect the skin. It will help moisturize the skin, soothe pain, and heal cracks and abrasions. You can find creams containing lanpine at drugstores and supermarkets. [4] X Research Sources

  • As an alternative, you can apply mineral jelly (petrpeum jelly) to the breast. Mineral grease will help retain moisture and prevent skin from rubbing against clothes. [5] X Research Sources

Apply ice cubes to the skin to ease the pain. If you feel pain from dry skin, you can apply an ice pack to your nipple to ease the pain. [6] X Research Source

  • Whether you use a supermarket ice pack or an ice pack you prepare at home, be sure to wrap a towel around it. Applying ice directly to the skin can cause cold burns.
  • Do not apply ice on the skin for longer than 20 minutes. This action can cause damage to the skin. If you still feel pain, you should allow the skin to warm up again before continuing to apply ice to the skin.

Take precautions to prevent chapping. Once your nipples are completely sore, you should take steps to prevent future problems. [7] X Research Sources

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing when participating in sports activities. In addition, you should choose clothes made from synthetic materials instead of cotton because cotton can scratch the skin.
  • Moisture wicking material will also help prevent perspiration in this area and prevent dry skin.
  • Women should use well-fitting sports bras. Underwear that doesn’t fit will easily move and rub against your nipples.
  • Apply Vaseline or mineral oil to the nipple. It will help protect the skin and prevent chapping.
  • You can use specialized products to cover your nipples. Alternatively, you can use a band-aid to cover your nipples, but removing it will be quite painful, especially if you have chest hair.

Apply warm, moist compresses to the nipple. The warmth from the gauze will help soothe the nipple. Using this method right after breastfeeding will not only help ease the pain, but also help clean the nipples. [9] X Research Source

  • Warm compresses should not be replaced with other heat-generating methods such as hair dryers or heaters. These remedies have been shown to cause damage to the skin. [10] X Research Source

Rub a few drops of breast milk into the nipple. The natural nutrients found in breast milk will help ease the aches and pains associated with breastfeeding. Breast milk also has antibacterial properties, so this will also help you prevent infections. Let the nipples dry naturally after rubbing the breast milk so that the skin has time to absorb as many nutrients as possible. [11] X Research Source

Soothes Nipples Soreness due to Hormonal Changes

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/b/b2/Soothe-Sore-Nipples-Step-14.jpg/v4-728px-Soothe-Sore-Nipples-Step-14. jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/b/b2/Soothe-Sore-Nipples-Step-14.jpg/v4-728px-Soothe-Sore-Nipples-Step- 14.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div> “}
Check your hormone status when your nipples are sore. Hormonal changes in the body can cause breasts and nipples to become swollen and painful. Usually, an imbalance in estrogen and progesterone levels is the culprit. Fluctuations in hormone levels are normal in the following situations:

  • During pregnancy, especially in the first 3 months. [20] X Research Source
  • Before or during menstruation. [21] X Research Source
  • When a woman enters menopause. [22] X Research Source
  • Men can also experience this condition. And it’s usually due to an imbalance in estrogen and testosterone levels. Although men don’t have to go through periods, pregnancy, or menopause, fluctuations in hormones are fairly common. [23] X Research Sources
  • Nipple soreness may be due to obesity or peripheral metabolism of estrogen in fat cells. This can cause gynecomastia in men.

Apply cold compresses to nipples. If sore nipples are caused by an imbalance in hormone levels, topical creams may not be as effective. The best way to relieve pain is with a cold compress. Remember to wrap a towel around the ice pack and hold the ice pack against your skin for no more than 20 minutes. If your nipples are still sore, you can apply cold again after your skin has warmed up and the pain has recurred. [24] X Research Source

  • Acetaminophen is the best choice for you. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) will reduce inflammation, and in this case, inflammation is not the cause of your nipple pain. However, NSAIDs can also be effective. [26] X Research Source You should avoid using aspirin if you’re under 20 years old because it increases your risk of Reye’s Syndrome.

Consult your doctor about the use of danazp. If the pain persists or is beyond your tolerance, your doctor may prescribe danazp. This medication is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, but can also be used to treat swelling and pain in the breasts and nipples. However, it will bring about a side effect that is virilization that may cause you to limit its use. You should consult with your doctor to see if this medication is right for you. • Advice

    • Eliminating caffeine and adding Vitamin E and evening primrose oil will also be effective in reducing breast pain.
    • Avoid using honey or Vitamin E on the breast while breastfeeding as this can cause poisoning to the infant.
    • Diet and exercise have a huge impact on breast pain. Diets low in fat and high in carbohydrates have been shown to reduce cyclical chest pain.

    Warning

    • See your doctor any time you experience persistent or unexplained breast pain. Breast pain is usually not a serious problem, but it can be a sign of another medical condition such as breast cancer.
