The cheeseburger left over from the day before can be a delicious treat for lunch or dinner, but it won’t stay fresh overnight in the fridge. When reheating a cheeseburger, the trick here is to remove the bun to warm up the crust and filling separately before sandwiching them together. You’ll have a delicious hot cheeseburger in minutes using the microwave, oven, or stovetop.

Let the cake sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Place the entire hamburger on the table to let it come to room temperature. This way, the cake will easily keep a uniform and stable temperature throughout the reheating process. [1] X Research Source

  • Do not leave the meat out for longer than 2 hours to ensure that the meat does not go rancid.

Place the cake on a flat surface to remove the filling. Place a cutting board or paper towel on the table and place the cake on top. Separate the fillings into groups: crust, meat, toppings and condiments. Hot vegetables in a hamburger will not taste good. [2] X Research Source

Use a kitchen knife to scrape the cheese and seasonings off the meat and crust. There may still be some seasoning left behind, but most of it should be removed. The hamburger will be much fresher if you use new seasoning. The layer of cheese left on the filling won’t change the way the meat is reheated, but it may melt during the heating process. [3] X Research Sources

  • Consider having a few slices of American cheese ready.

Check the freshness of vegetables and other seasonings. Lettuce and tomatoes often get wet during storage and may have to be thrown away. Pickled cucumbers, onions, bacon and other toppings contain less water so it’s okay and can be kept. [4] X Research Sources

  • If you want the cake to taste as fresh as new, you should add a few slices of fresh tomato, lettuce, and onion.

Place the meat filling on a microwave-safe plate. Place the meatballs on a microwave-safe plate or paper towel to reheat. Remember to place the meat in the center of the plate to heat evenly. [5] X Research Sources

Heat the meatballs in the microwave for 1-2 minutes on low power. Place the meatballs in the microwave, close the door, and start reheating. Since the meat is already cooked, you need to use the reheat setting or set the microwave to low power (30%) to prevent the meat from overheating. If the meatballs are thicker than usual, you can pause the oven and turn the bottom side up. [6] X Research Source

  • The exact reheating time may vary depending on the thickness of the meatballs and the power of the microwave oven. You should consult the manufacturer’s instructions for the recommended reheating time.

Feel the meatball to see if it’s hot. Touch the meat with a finger to see if it’s warm. If the meat is already warm, you can remove it from the oven. If the meat is still cold or just slightly warm, you should reheat it a little longer.

Reheat the meat filling in 30-second increments if needed. Try reheating for another 30 seconds if the meat still hasn’t reached the desired temperature. If the cake is too cold, try reheating it for another half minute. If you have heated up to 1 minute and the meat is still cold, you can continue to reheat for 10 seconds more. [7] X Research Sources

  • If you want to add a fresh slice of cheese, place it on top of the meatball and reheat both for another 10 seconds.

Reheat hamburger crust for 60 seconds on lower power. Wrap the pie crust in a slightly damp paper towel and heat in the microwave at 30-50% power. Reheat the crust for 60 seconds and see if it’s hot enough. [8] X Research Sources

  • You should heat the hamburger crust just warm enough, not hot.

Clip the hamburger filling. Take the warmed cake filling and sandwich it between the two heated pie crusts. If old accompaniments like tomatoes and onions are still available, you can restock them now. If not, grab a few slices of fresh veggies from the fridge and put them on the cake. Drizzle with more seasoning if desired (such as ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, etc.).

Bake the cake in the oven

Image titled Reheat a Cheeseburger Step 11

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Preheating the oven to this temperature is important, as it will help the cake heat up quickly without overheating during the reheating process. This step needs to be done in advance so that when you are done preparing the cake, the oven is also hot. [9] X Research Source

Place the meatballs on the metal grill and place in the oven. Remove the grill and place the meat filling on the griddle. Place the grill in a large skillet or baking tray so that the grease from the meatballs doesn’t drip to the bottom of the oven. When you have arranged the grill and pan, you can put it in the oven. [10] X Research Source

  • If using a baking tray, you should line it with foil for extra security.
  • Remember to close the oven door after placing the meatballs in the oven.

Turn the meat over after 3 minutes. Set the baking time to 3 minutes and wait for the meat to heat up. When the time is up, turn the meat over to make sure it heats evenly on both sides. Remember to use kitchen gloves or a pot lifter when doing this.

Add the crust on the grill after turning the meat. When you open the oven door, place the hamburger shell on the griddle, next to the meatball that just turned over. Turn on the light in the oven to make sure the crust doesn’t burn for the remaining 2 minutes.

  • If you want more cheese, you can place a slice of fresh cheese on top of the meatballs for the last 1-2 minutes.

Wait another 2 minutes before removing the cake. Set the baking time for another 2 minutes and then wait for the crust and filling to warm up. If possible, you should turn on the light in the oven to keep an eye on the cake from burning. [11] X Research Source

  • Ideally, the crust should look crispy when you take it out of the oven.

Clip the meat to the crust along with the toppings and seasonings. Sandwich the reheated meat filling between the two crispy crusts and add the toppings you left earlier. If there are no toppings left, you can grab a few slices of tomato and lettuce from the fridge and put them on the cake. Finish the hamburger by drizzling your chosen seasoning over the meatballs.

Steamed on the stove

Put the meat filling in the pan and pour in the water. Place meat in a small saucepan about the size of meatballs. Fill the pan with about ½ cup (120 ml) of water or just enough to form a thin layer of water on the bottom of the pan. [12] X Research Source

  • Remember that the pan must have a tight-fitting lid, as the steaming process requires a lid.
  • You can also use chicken broth or white wine instead of water to add flavor to the meat filling.
  • The crust cannot be reheated in a pan. You should consider using a microwave or oven to heat the crust.

Cover the pan and steam the meatballs for about 5-7 minutes. Return the pan to the stove and turn the heat to medium high. Cover the pan and cook for about 5-7 minutes. [13] X Research Source

  • When you cover the pan, steam will build up inside the pan. Steam is the main source of heat for reheating meatballs.
  • If you want to add a new slice of cheese, open the lid of the pan, place the cheese on top of the meatballs and steam for another 30-60 seconds. Open the pan lid when the cheese has melted.
