Place the chestnuts on a baking tray. You can place it directly on the oven rack with the X side facing up. Sprinkle a little water on top to help the chestnuts cook more easily.

Bake the chestnuts for about 15-20 minutes. Bake until chestnuts are tender and peel comes off easily. While baking, every few minutes you should use a spoon or whisk to stir the chestnuts so they don’t burn. Remove the chestnuts from the oven when they are cooked through.
Peel the chestnuts. Wait for 2-3 minutes for the chestnuts to cool, then wrap in a towel and squeeze until the chestnut shell breaks. Incubate in the towel for about 5 more minutes.
Peel the chestnuts. It’s easier to peel while the chestnuts are still warm. Peel off the inner membrane along with the shell. If there are any seeds that are difficult to peel, you can bake them for a few more minutes.
