Look for possible entry points for cockroaches. Take a few minutes to check the entire bedroom for places where cockroaches can crawl in from the outside. Look closely at the junction between the wall and the floor and ceiling in the room, corners, vents, and around windows.

  • Remember that cockroaches can squeeze through cracks and openings that are only 3mm tall. [1] X Research Source

Seal the gaps with a glue gun. Buy a simple glue gun at a home improvement store. Glue gun with instructions for use; You need to read carefully before using. If you find any cracks that you suspect cockroaches can slip through to get into the bedroom, point the glue gun into it, pull the trigger, and move around the crack to spray glue to fill the gap. • Wait for the glue to dry according to the product instructions.
  • Stickers can be inserted into openings only 1-2mm wider than their body thickness.

Inspect ventilation grilles and replace if necessary. The only thing to prevent cockroaches from entering the bedroom through the ventilation slot is the screen. If you find any holes in the vent grille, replace it with a new one as soon as possible.

  • If you see a very small hole or if you only want a temporary fix, you can seal the hole with 2-3 layers of strong tape (such as cloth tape).

Install the rubber band to block the door slot. Perhaps your bedroom door only opens to other rooms in the house, but cockroaches can get through other doors and find their way into your bedroom, even as far as your bed. You should install door slits on all doors in your home that lead to the outside to prevent cockroaches from entering your home through the gap between the door and the door frame. Do you know? Cockroaches are very good at detecting chemicals found in common repellants and insecticides, giving them a chance to escape. To avoid this, you can put bait on cockroaches and replace it every 1-2 weeks until the problem is resolved.

Do not use bed sheets that touch the floor. While you work hard to keep cockroaches out of your home and bedroom, you can still keep them from getting close to your bed. Tuck the sheets under the mattress and replace the oversized blankets with smaller ones that don’t touch the floor. Thus, it is more difficult for cockroaches to want to climb into your bed. [4] X Research Sources

  • Cockroaches can also crawl up the bottom of the mattress (the ruffle around the mattress). If you’re using a mattress skirt, leave it out.

Wrap silicone tape around the foot of the bed. Buy plain silicone rubber tape at your home store or online. Wrap duct tape around each foot of the bed from underneath the spring mattress to nearly the floor. This will also prevent cockroaches from crawling onto the bed if they somehow managed to get into the house. [5] X Research Sources

Create an unfavorable environment for cockroaches

Clean up the clutter. Cockroaches love to find clutter, because that’s where they can hide and live without being exposed or disturbed. Clean up your room by dividing everything into two piles of “discard” and “keep” items, then throw away all the “discard” items and stash the “retained” items. [6] X Research Source

  • Cockroaches especially love cardboard boxes and newspapers, so get rid of old newspapers and/or use plastic containers instead of cardboard boxes for storage.
  • Try to put dirty clothes in the laundry basket and fold the clean clothes in a drawer or hang up in the closet.
  • Remove all wallpaper and shelf paper, as cockroaches like to eat the glue on the back of these papers.

Keep the house and bedroom clean. Cockroaches thrive in dirty environments, so it’s vital that you regularly clean your bedroom and every other room in your home. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean all furniture surfaces with a rag and all-purpose cleaner once a week. In addition, you also need to pay attention to washing dishes and taking out the trash immediately. Food is very attractive to cockroaches, so overflowing kitchen sinks and trash cans can attract cockroaches into your home.

  • You also need to clear away all glue, starch, soap, cloth, wood and even water sources, as cockroaches are voracious eaters.
  • If possible, don’t leave food in the bedroom. If you need to leave food in the room, be sure to store it in a tightly sealed container or bag.
  • Make sure the rubber seal on the refrigerator door is in good condition, as baby cockroaches can get inside.

Clean up the piles of trash in the yard. If you clean the outside of your house as well, there is less chance for cockroaches to get into your home, into your bedroom and eventually onto your bed. Cockroaches like to burrow under messy piles of wood and fallen leaves. Rake up fallen leaves and remove them, and arrange and clean up the wood piles in the yard, especially those near the house. Spray cypress and peppermint essential oils under the bed and around the bed. These essential oils are often the natural remedy for cockroaches. Mix 8 drops of cypress essential oil, 10 drops of menthol, and 1 cup (240 ml) of water in a spray bottle to spray on areas where you’ve seen cockroaches. If you’re not sure where there are cockroaches, spray under the bed and around the bed. [8] X Research Sources

Repel cockroaches with coffee grounds. Cockroaches generally stay away from coffee because it can harm them. Pour coffee grounds into several open containers and place under or near your bed to repel cockroaches. [9] X Research Source

  • Coffee grounds can also repel other insects (such as ants) thanks to the caffeine.

Chase away cockroaches with cigar butts. The nicotine in cigars can repel cockroaches. If you or someone you know smokes cigars, collect the tips and put them in uncovered containers and place them on the floor near your bed to keep cockroaches out. [10] X Research Source

Crush and sprinkle some bay leaves to repel cockroaches. Bay leaves are also a natural cockroach repellant, as cockroaches don’t like the smell of it. You can use a pestle and mortar or a pulverizer to grind a few bay leaves into a powder, put them in a few uncovered containers, and place them in your bedroom and around your bed.

Make your own insecticide using baking soda and sugar. While getting rid of cockroaches does not completely solve the problem, it also helps to reduce the number of cockroaches in and around the house. If you want to kill cockroaches, mix baking soda and sugar in equal proportions and sprinkle the mixture around the room. Sugar will attract cockroaches, and baking soda will kill cockroaches when they eat it. [11] X Research Source

  • Sweep or vacuum the mixture after a few days and throw away any dead cockroaches found.
  • This mixture is safe to use in homes with children and pets.

Use boric acid in severe cases. Boric acid is one of the most effective products for killing cockroaches, ants and other pests. You can buy boric acid at the supermarket or online to treat it if the problem becomes severe. Sprinkle a thin layer of boric acid on the floor under the bed. When cockroaches crawl through, they will be contaminated with boric acid and will die when eaten. [12] X Research Source

    • Keep boric acid out of the reach of children and pets, as it is toxic and very harmful if swallowed.
    • Don’t forget to vacuum or wipe off the boric acid after 1-2 days.
    • Boric acid is not effective when wet or sprinkled too much.
  • Advice
