Speak louder. When you speak, it’s important for everyone to hear, so say it out loud! If you whisper, mutter, or lower your head when you speak, you’ll be easily drowned out or ignored by others.

  • However, that doesn’t mean you have to scream, you should adjust the volume depending on the situation. For example, if you are in front of a crowd, you need to speak loudly so that everyone can hear you.
  • However, speaking loudly in casual everyday communication is unnecessary and can make a bad impression.

Speak slowly. Talking too fast is a bad habit and makes it difficult for your listeners to follow or even understand what you are saying. That will easily distract people and stop listening.

  • Therefore, it is important to adjust your pace by speaking more slowly and breaking your voice between sentences – this helps emphasize what you are communicating, and gives you time to breathe!
  • However, you should not speak too slowly. Speaking too slowly will make the listener feel monotonous, they may lose patience and lose focus.
  • The ideal speaking rate is around 120 to 160 words per minute. However, if you’re giving a presentation, it’s best to adjust your speed depending on what you’re saying – speaking slowly can help emphasize an idea, while speaking faster can give the impression of passion. and fervent. Clear pronunciation. Speaking clearly is perhaps the most important thing in improving your voice. You have to be really focused on every word you say – the pronunciation is round and right.

  • Remember to open your mouth, relax your lips, and keep your tongue and teeth in place when talking. This can also help you eliminate or correct your lisp if you have it. It may feel awkward at first, but if you keep trying to get the pronunciation right, you will soon find it natural. [1] X Research Source

Practice deep breathing . Deep breathing is essential for a round and full voice. Most people breathe too quickly and shallowly while speaking, resulting in a nasal, unnatural voice.

  • Breathing needs to come from the diaphragm, not from the chest. To find out if you’re breathing correctly, place your fist on your stomach, just below the last rib – if you’re breathing correctly, you’ll feel your abdomen rise and your shoulders rise and fall as you breathe.
  • Practice breathing by taking deep breaths to fill your belly with air. Inhale for 5 seconds, then exhale for another 5 seconds. Get familiar with this breathing method, then try to apply it to your everyday speech.
  • Remember that sitting or standing upright, with your chin raised, and shoulders back will help you breathe more deeply and make it easier to speak out loud. This pose also gives you confidence while speaking.
  • Try to breathe after each sentence – if you use deep breathing, you will have enough air to finish the next sentence without having to pause to breathe. This also helps the listener to keep up with what you are saying.

Change the tone. The timbre of your voice can really impact the quality of your speech and impact your listeners as well. In general, a shaky timbre, erratic rise and fall creates a feeling of suspense, while a steady timbre sounds calmer and more convincing. [2] X Research Source

  • While it’s not a good idea to change the natural timbre of your voice, you should try to keep it under control. Don’t let the nervousness overwhelm you, and work on developing a fuller and smoother voice.
  • You can practice controlling your timbre by humming a tune, or simply reading a passage aloud. Remember that it’s not always necessary to keep the tone even – some words should be said with a higher timbre for emphasis. [3] X Research Sources

Do some vocal exercises. Practicing vocal exercises can be a great way to develop your natural voice. Practicing in front of a mirror is the most effective way. The following techniques are available:

  • Try to relax your mouth and vocal cords. You can do this by yawning loudly, swinging your jaw back and forth, humming a tune, and gently massaging the muscles in your throat with your fingers.
  • Increase the volume and capacity of your breath by pushing all the air out of your lungs as you exhale, then inhale deeply and hold for 15 seconds before exhaling.
  • Practice your timbre by singing the “a” sound, first with a normal pitch, then gradually lower the pitch. You can also do it with individual letters of the alphabet. [1] X Research Source
  • Repeat several times with tongue twisters such as:
    • Copper pot cooks snails, clay pot cooks frogs.
    • Noon to eat grapefruit sour.
    • Glutinous rice is the village’s glutinous rice, the rice layering on layers of her heart is lightheaded.

Practice reading aloud. Rhythm and volume are essential in pronunciation practice.

  • Pick a passage from a book or magazine, or better yet, find a famous speech (like Tran Hung Dao’s Hich General Si) and read it aloud.
  • Remember to stand up straight, breathe deeply, and open your mouth wide when you speak. Stand in front of a mirror if you find this helpful.
  • Keep practicing until you are satisfied with your voice. Then try to apply that technique in everyday conversation.

Self-recording. Even though most people don’t like hearing the sound of their own voice, it’s a good idea to record them while they speak.

  • This can help you find errors you wouldn’t normally notice, such as mispronunciation and problems with speech speed or timbre.
  • Almost every phone these days has a recording function that you can use to listen to your voice again. You can also use a camcorder (which helps you check your posture, eye contact, and speech).

Find a voice teacher. If you are really interested in improving your voice – for debates, speeches or presentations – then you should probably seek out a voice teacher. They can point out the problem in your voice and help you fix it.

  • Studying with a voice teacher is a good idea if you have a local accent or your accent is too rough and you’re trying to limit or eliminate it. Voice correction is hard work, so finding a professional is a really helpful thing to do.
  • If studying with a voice teacher seems a bit overwhelming, you might want to think about practicing in front of a friend or relative who has a very clear voice. They can find the problem and give you good advice. This will also give you more confidence when speaking in front of people. [4] X Research Sources

Smile as you speak. People are more likely to judge you and your words if your voice is open, friendly, and encouraging (as opposed to an aggressive, sarcastic, or monotonous voice).

    • A good way to have a friendly and warm voice is to smile when you talk. You shouldn’t be grinning, but a slight lift in your lips can make your voice sound more engaging – even on the phone.
    • Of course, smiling is not always appropriate, especially when you are discussing a serious matter. But remember that voice with emotion (whatever it is) can work wonders. [5] X Research Sources

    • If possible, practice these exercises in a closed room without carpet so that you can hear your voice more clearly.
    • Try out different singing exercises, as it’s a great way to learn how to breathe properly and it’s also a vocal technique.
    • Remember to practice correct posture, as that is necessary for a good voice.
    • When the vocal cords make sound, you should feel vibrations in your chest, back, neck, and head. This vibration will create resonance, bringing a full and sweet sound to your voice. This is exactly what you’re looking for, so spend a lot of time relaxing these parts.
    • The jaw and tongue are the most important parts to relax because they form a resonant cavity, much like the soundboard of a guitar. If your mouth is tight, you have to use more force to achieve the same volume. Relaxing and gently moving your jaw and lips will help your voice sound more natural, less tense, or less muffled.
    • Don’t stress if you’re still not satisfied with your voice. Some of the most recognizable voices have a wide range of vocals from high to low and all in the middle.
