Steps

Prepare

Eyebrow plucking. You will pluck the eyebrows below the natural eyebrow line, including the eyebrows in between the eyebrows. However, you do not need to pluck very carefully at this step, just pluck the hairs that grow out of the way. [1] X Research Source

  • Avoid plucking the eyebrows above the eyebrows as this will take away the naturalness of the eyebrows and make the eyes look smaller.
Trim eyebrows. If you find that your brows are longer than your natural brows, brush them upwards with a twisted brush (looks like the ones used for mascara) and trim them short. [2] X Research Source Trim the eyebrows by placing the small eyebrow scissors horizontally above the eyebrows (try to follow the contours of the natural brows) and carefully trim the brows so that equal to the surface of the natural brow line. With the eyebrows that are not in place, you can use a twist brush to brush them down and use the same action to trim the eyebrows that grow out below the natural eyebrows.

  • Be careful not to trim your eyebrows too short! You only need to trim about 0.3cm above the edge of the eyebrow. It’s often easy to trim your brows shorter than necessary; so it’s best to just prune a little first and then trim more if needed.
Draw below the natural brow line. You’ll draw short, soft, brow-like lines beneath your brows to bold and define the natural contours of your brows. You should avoid drawing too dark eyebrows, just draw light lines and add more if needed.

  • You need to make the bottom edge of the eyebrows clear and sharp, and the top edge and the rest of the eyebrows to look natural and soft. If the eyebrow line is too dark, use a twist brush to blend the line in an upward direction. [3] X Research Sources
  • Do not choose an eyebrow pencil that is the same color as your eyebrows. Just like hair, eyebrows also come in different colors and shades. Choosing the same color as the eyebrows will make the eyebrows look very dark. Instead, you should choose a lighter color to line and fill in your eyebrows. For example, if you have dark brown eyebrows, you will choose a lighter brown pencil. [4] X Research Sources

Shaping eyebrows

Define the limits of the eyebrows. Place the eyebrow brush (or any straight item) upright so that the brush tip almost touches the inner recess of one eye. Next, you will move the brush upwards to create an intersection with the eyebrows. This is the starting point of the eyebrow and you will be plucking the hairs that grow outside of that point. [5] X Research Sources

  • You can also choose the wing of the nose – the bulge of the nose to define the beginning of the eyebrow. Note that each person has a different face shape, eye position and nose size; so this method may not be suitable for everyone.
Mark the beginning of the eyebrow. Use the eyeliner to dot a watermark to see where the first point of the eyebrow and pluck the eyebrows that grow in front (ie towards the middle of the eyebrow).

  • It is better to use tweezers to pluck these eyebrows to avoid making mistakes.
  • Remember not to pluck the tip of the eyebrow beyond the inner socket of the eye.
  • If your skin feels uncomfortable and red after plucking, try aloe vera gel or cortisone cream to soothe the skin. [6] X Research Sources
Define eyebrow tail. Place the brow brush (or straight object) diagonally from the outermost point of the wing to the outer corner of the eye on the same side. You can also move diagonally along the brow bone. This is the position of the eyebrow tail. [7] X Research Source You will pluck the hairs that grow outside of the eyebrow tail.

  • Be careful not to pluck the ends of the eyebrows because they rarely grow back. Only pluck the hairs that grow on the outside. [8] X Research Sources
Defines the natural curve of the eyebrows. Place the eyebrow brush (or straight object) diagonally starting from the outermost point of the wing of the nose to the outer edge of the pupil on the same side. [9] X Research Source The point of intersection between the brush and the upper edge of the eyebrow will be the curvature of the eyebrow.

  • Usually you will pluck the hairs below the eyebrow line. However, you need to be observant and only pluck the hairs that grow out of the way instead of plucking unselectively.
Create a slightly curved and angled eyebrow shape. Eyebrows that are too arched will make the face look angry. You can pluck a few eyebrows above the curve if you want to reduce the curvature to create a gentle and natural arch. Make sure your brows look slightly angled instead of rounded. Find out your skin tone. Similar to using a lighter color to line the bottom edge of your eyebrows, your skin tone also affects the color you choose to use to fill in your eyebrows. For example, if you have a darker skin tone, try choosing a shade of red to color your eyebrows. [11] X Research Source This can make your brows look natural. If your skin tone is light, but your hair is dark, try using a light brown tone with an ash-gray undertone. [12] X Research Source

  • If you are not sure which color to choose, you can go to the cosmetics store and try the colors in person to see which color suits you. You can also ask the staff for further advice.

Use powder to color your eyebrows. Dab the brush (small brush with oblique bristles recommended) into the brow powder, tap the side of the box to loosen excess powder, and begin to blend gently over the top and bottom edges of your brows. When applying powder, you will follow the natural direction of the eyebrows. Paint only within the contours of the natural eyebrows and do not smudge outside the natural eyebrows.

  • Start from the curved part of the eyebrow and gradually spread to the ends.
  • If you want to create gentle contours on your face or highlight a strong jawline, you should draw slightly arched eyebrows. If you want to make a round face angled and highlight small lines, you will choose sharp and angled eyebrows.

Use a brow mold to create the perfect look. You can buy eyebrow molds online or at cosmetic stores. Select the mold with the look you want and place it on your natural brow, pressing it down with two fingers so you can still see the contours of the mold clearly. Carefully fill in the brows along the edge of the mold. [13] X Research Source

  • When you’re done with one eyebrow, simply wipe the mold clean with a paper towel and rotate the mold to continue processing the remaining eyebrow.
Paint the rest of the brows. From the curve of the eyebrow, continue to fill each edge of the eyebrow with fine lines. You don’t need to use another product, just focus on applying more powder and thickness on the outer edge of the eyebrows instead of adding more powder to the middle of the eyebrows. Focusing on the edge of your brows will help you create thick and natural looking brows. [14] X Research Source

  • Avoid drawing outside the natural brow edge.
  • Note, you can always draw darker brows. If you paint your brows too dark at the start, you will have a hard time adjusting when you make a mistake.
Color canopy. Use a twisted brush to brush and spread the color evenly on the eyebrows. This makes your brows less coarse and natural looking. You can continue adding powder and blending until you have the desired thickness and color.
Check your results. Place the brush diagonally from the outside of the nose and check the tip of the eyebrow. You will also check the tail and the curve of the brow using the steps used to shape the brows in Part 1.

  • Use the brush and eye as a model to see if the brows are too short and need to be lengthened or too long and need to be shortened.
  • Make sure the beginning and the end of the curve on both sides of the eyebrows are even. While natural brows are never exactly the same, it’s always a good idea to create brows that are as balanced as possible.
Hold the brows. Use a clear brow hold product to hold your brows and makeup in place. Starting at the center of the brow, you will brush the brows upward and move the brush to the outer (tail) part of the brow. Use more concealer around the eyebrows to make the eyebrows look more defined. [15] X Research Source

  • You can also use colored gels, but clear gels are still a safe bet to avoid adding more color to your brows.

Use eyebrow gel and white pencil to create a natural, gentle look. You will brush the eyebrow gel with the brush tip diagonally along the natural brow line and the growth direction of the eyebrows. Next, you use a white pencil along the brow bone to create a gentle light, helping the eyebrows look thick and naturally balanced. [16] X Research Source

Styling angled brows when you want an edgy look for an evening out. Using the eyebrow pencil, draw a line from the inner edge of the eyebrow to the curved point. Instead of rounding the ends of your eyebrows, you will create a square, angled look. [18] X Research Sources

    • Create balance for sharp eyebrows with smoky eye makeup. For a softer look, simply line your upper lash line.
  • Advice

    • Try to draw your eyebrows correctly; You probably don’t want your eyebrows to go up and down unevenly.
    • Eyebrows with too high a curve will make you look older.
    • If the eyebrows are too light for the face and natural hair color, you can add color to the eyebrows before bolding. This will create a natural look and make it easier to shade your brows.
    • If you are having trouble with trimming your eyebrows, you can go to the salon to have an experienced person help you every few weeks. This is a way to help you have eyebrows with perfect curl and thickness without fear of making mistakes.
