If you are planning to make a paper bag that is different from the usual brown paper bag, this article will guide you to do it. In fact, you can always make your own paper bags with old newspapers or magazines or pre-made craft paper. Alternatively, you can make a paper bag out of a sturdy material or make a bag for a gift, even a piece of art, or simply a fun activity.
Steps
Paper bag decoration
- You need scissors, glue, ruler and pencil to make the bag.
- Colored or patterned paper are both suitable for making paper bags. The hard material will help the bag stand firm and hold a lot of heavy items inside. You can choose craft paper in any style and color.
- Gift wrapping or newspaper is also a good material to use if you want to make a lightweight bag.
- Use extra rope or ribbon to make the handle.
- Prepare materials such as stencils, feathers, glitter, paints, crayons and crayons to decorate the bag.
- Save time by using the straight edge of the paper. If your paper is the right size, cut it from the edge instead of in the center.
- Decorate only on one side of the paper. You can decorate both sides if you want to show off a fun image of the inside of the bag or to cover up an unflattering material, especially when using newspaper.
Making paper bags
- If you have decorated paper, make sure the decoration is dry and place the paper face down.
- With the paper still horizontally, fold the two short edges together as if you were folding the paper in half lengthwise, folding the paper to mark the midpoint of each long side. Use a pencil to draw a blur on both edges.
- Add two more dots 13mm from the midpoint on both edges. When you’re done, you’ll have a total of six points: three on each long side.
- Bring the right edge of the paper to the left pencil line and fold it over. When finished folding, open the paper. Repeat the same operation for the remaining edge.
- Flip the bottom of the paper over, fold the left and right edges to the center, and glue the two edges. Remember to fold along the fold line created earlier (but note that the fold will now be folded in reverse). Let the glue dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
- Use a ruler to measure from the left edge to about 4cm. Use a pencil to make a small mark.
- Push the left fold of the bag inward so that the pencil mark in the previous step is on the outer edge of the new fold.
- Fold the paper inward so that the pencil line is on the edge of the new fold. Keep the top and bottom edges symmetrical as you fold the paper.
- Do the same for the right edge. When finished, the body of the bag with the two sides is folded inward, just like a regular paper bag.
- Fold and glue the bottom of the bag. Once you’ve determined where the bottom of the bag is, start gluing the bottom:
- Fold the bottom up about 10cm and fold it neatly.
- Keeping the remaining bag body flat, open the bottom of the bag. The inner fold will open, creating a square edge. Inside, you’ll see a fold of a triangle on each side.
- Fold the left and right edges of the bottom of the opened square inward. Fold along the outer edge of each triangle. When finished, you will have a bottom with 8 sides like a long octagon instead of 4 as before.
- Fold the bottom edge of the “octagon” up to the center of the bottom of the bag.
- Fold the top edge of the “octagon” down to the center of the bottom of the bag. The bottom is now closed; Glue the edges together and let dry
- Hold the edges of the bag and use a hole puncher or pencil to make two holes at the top of the bag. Do not make the hole too close to the edge of the bag because the weight of the bag and the contents will tear the handle.
- Make the hole you just made sturdier by applying clear tape or glue to the edge of the hole.
- Thread the end of the string through the holes and knot the rope on the inside of the bag. You should make the knot big enough that it won’t slide out. You can add a knot on top of the knot you just knotted to increase the knot size. This way, the handle will be held tighter.
Advice
- Cover the surface used to make the bag with newspaper. That way, it will be easier for you to clean up.
- Colored papers can also be used as bags.
- Make a paper bag as a gift to give to a friend. Decorate the bag with glitter, paint and crayons.
- If you want the bag to be short, fold the opening inward until the length you want and cut along the fold.
- Use some fabric for extra decoration.
- Use only a small amount of glue.
