Prepare a box or bag of baby care supplies. Pack everything you might need, such as a first aid kit, snacks, and extra cell phone batteries. You should also prepare children’s items such as coloring books, glitter glue, toys and puzzles.

  • Choose items according to the age of the child. For example, if you babysit a preschooler, you should choose stuffed animals over toys with small parts that could cause your child to choke.
  • The basic first aid kit requires a band-aid, hand sanitizer, medical bandages, wet tissues and gloves. [1] X Research Source

Consider how much you should take. In the US, the average cost of babysitting is $14 per hour. You can charge based on your experience and the number of children you will keep. Remember that you and the baby’s parents must agree on a price before they put the baby in your care. [2] X Research Source

  • There are babysitting apps that allow parents to pay over the phone so you don’t have to bring cash home.
  • Money can be difficult to talk about, but don’t be afraid to offer a fair price. You deserve that money!

Arrive 15 minutes early to discuss the rules with the child’s parents. 15 minutes is enough for you to know the house rules, requirements of young parents and contact information before they leave the house. You need to ask about the bedtime, the child’s allergies, if any, and how to discipline the child. Write it down in your notebook so you don’t forget.

  • This is a good time to talk about payment if you haven’t mentioned it before. Let them know how much you charge, although usually you will be paid when they get home.
  • Don’t be late! Even being a minute late makes you seem irresponsible and unreliable.

Take a stand if the kids aren’t good. You need to be firm with your child. If your kids say they’ve been given permission by their parents to do something their parents told you not to (like staying up late past bedtime), then you should choose to be safe and follow the parent’s rules. Their parents will get the impression that you are mature and responsible, and hopefully next time they will invite you to work!

  • If you’re not sure about something, ask. Never hesitate to call a parent if you are unsure about something or when the children are disruptive. Be more careful than ever.
  • Never hit or scold a child. Firmly remind your children of the rules and punishments if they continue to misbehave.

Take a coaching course if you’re 11 or older. If you’re in the US, you can find a class at a community center or online on the American Red Cross website. You should also study for a first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation degree. This way, not only will you learn a lot of useful knowledge, but you will also be able to get more babysitting offers because parents will trust you more. [3] X Research Sources

  • Online courses cost about 35 USD, and offline classes cost about 89 USD.
  • If you’re under 11 years old or aren’t confident enough to take care of the kids alone, start with a babysitting job. You will take care of or play with the children while their parents are still at home.

Selling items

Sell items you no longer use. Clean the room and collect all the toys, decorations, and clothes that you don’t use or like anymore. Ask your parents for permission and place the items on a folding table in your front yard or entrance. Put a price tag on each item according to your estimated value and their original price. [4] X Research Sources

  • The best time to sell is on weekend mornings, when most of the second-hand buyers are out of the house and around shopping.
  • Ask your parents and siblings if they have anything they want to get rid of. If you have a wide variety of items to sell, you’ll attract buyers of all ages.
  • Willing to negotiate price. Calculate in advance the lowest price for each item that you can accept and negotiate with the buyer based on that.

Sell candy if you have a lot of friends. Who doesn’t love lovely sweet chocolate bars? Buy candy in bulk at wholesale places for much cheaper, then resell each candy bar or small package to make double profits.

  • For example, if you buy 12 candy bars for 120,000 VND, that means you will pay 10,000 VND for each candy bar. Let’s sell it for 20 thousand dong per candy bar, so you pocket 120,000 dong after deducting the initial capital.
  • If you plan to sell candy on campus or on the bus, you’ll need to check your school’s rules to see if it’s allowed.
  • Ask your parents to accompany you if you plan to bring candy door-to-door inviting buyers to be on the safe side.

Open a lemonade stand when it’s hot. You will need a folding table, a sign that says “Lemonade for Sale!”, plastic cups, straws, a large pitcher of water, ice cubes, and of course lemonade. If you’re selling in your front yard, you can make lemonade in the kitchen and refrigerate it, then sell it individually.

  • If you plan to set up a lemonade stand away from home, make the lemonade first and store it in the ice bucket at the foot of the table.
  • Charge extra if guests want more ice or straws (more ingredients, higher prices!)
  • While it is possible to sell bottled lemonade, you won’t be able to make as much money as making your own. People will pay more for freshly squeezed lemonade that they can’t get at the store.
  • Selling snacks like cookies or pretzels with lemonade is a great way to make some extra cash.

Sell cakes if you like to cook. Choose a traditional cake recipe that is easy to make in large batches like chocolate chip cookies, soft chocolate cake, vanilla flavored cupcakes. When the batch of cakes is finished baking, divide them into small pieces and put them in cute packaging like gift bags with bow ties. Set up a cake stand in your front yard or street corner to get more buyers.

  • Food safety is very important when you sell homemade food. Always wash your hands with soap and water before making cakes and touching food, especially when choosing fresh ingredients.
  • Contact your local government to see if you need any special permits to sell baked goods.
  • You can use a pre-mix or make your own from base ingredients. Another option is to specialize in selling a specific type of cake such as a gluten-free or vegan cake to make your dish unique.

Grow ornamental plants, herbs or vegetables for sale if you are a cool gardener. If your parents give you a piece of land in the garden to grow plants, choose vegetables that are easy to care for such as lettuce, tomatoes or cucumbers. If you plan to grow plants in pots, you should choose plants that do not take up a lot of room and do not require a lot of sun. Pick vegetables when it’s time to harvest and pack them for sale. [5] X Research Sources

  • If you want to grow flowers or herbs, you might consider selling the whole potted plant so the buyer can continue to enjoy it for years to come.
  • Herbs like basil, oregano, and spring onions can do well indoors. Other plants that are suitable for growing indoors include succulents, ferns, and spider plants. [6] X Research Source
  • Most vegetables should be planted in March or April so they can be harvested in the summer. Look up specific crops on Google or ask nurseries if you’re not sure.

Make and sell crafts if you like to be creative. Turn your hobby into a business. Whether it’s handmade candles, friendship bracelets, or pretty cards, you can sell your handmade items at craft fairs, farmers markets, or online at the Etsy Store. Set a price for the item based on the cost of the materials and the amount of time it took you to complete. [7] X Research Sources

  • The more time it takes to make and the more expensive the materials, the higher the price of the item.
  • If you’re 13 years old, you can open an online store on the Etsy website, and if you’re under 18, you’ll need parental permission. If you are not yet 11 years old, ask your parents to open a store in your name.
  • Some art shops and small shops sell handicrafts. Check to see if there’s a store near you that accepts your wonderfully creative crafts.

Mow the lawn in the summer if you can safely operate the mower. Children 12 years old can use a hand-operated lawn mower, but you must be 16 years or older to drive a lawn mower. Before you start mowing, ask your neighbors how tall they want the lawn to be, what areas of the yard need to be mowed, and if they have any special requirements (such as not mowing too close to the lawn). flower beds). [8] X Trusted Source HealthyChildren.org Go to Source

  • In the US, you can get 30-50 USD per lawn mowing, depending on the size of the yard. Look around to see what the lawn mowing fee is.
  • Only mow the lawn when it’s sunny, in good weather, and when you’re in the safest condition.
  • Always wear closed-toe shoes and safety goggles to prevent weeds or dirt from getting into your eyes.
  • If your neighbor has small children or pets, you need to ask them to babysit the children and pets while you mow the lawn to be safe.

Remove fallen leaves in the fall if you live in an area with lots of deciduous trees. Grab a rake with a few big trash bags and go door to door to “advertise the service”. Ask your neighbors where they need to clear the leaves on the lawn and where you will have to dump the leaves, such as in a leaf collection yard or in the back yard of the tree. Rake the leaves into a large pile, then stuff the leaves in a trash bag and tie it up.

  • Avoid raking leaves right after it rains. Wet leaves will be much heavier and very difficult to scratch. You should wait until the yard is dry to rake the leaves.
  • If the leaves are dumped without collecting the leaves in a trash bag, you should use a large trash can with wheels instead of a garbage bag to make it easier to empty the leaves and drag them to the dump.

Clear driveways and sidewalks in the winter if you live in a snowy area. Choose a lightweight but sturdy shovel with a non-stick blade. Clear snow strategically, either from top to bottom or diagonally along the driveway. Push the snow aside and only scavenge when needed so you don’t lose strength too quickly. [9] X Research Source

  • Calculate the fee from 10-20 USD, depending on the area of the road to the house and whether you have to clean the sidewalk or just move in front of the gate.
  • When shoveling snow, you should always bend your knees instead of bending down to waist level to protect your back.
  • Dress warmly in cold weather as you will have to work outside for several hours. Wear a thick coat, waterproof gloves, a hat or earplugs, and snow boots with sturdy soles to prevent slipping on the ice.

Take care of your neighbor’s garden in the spring. You can help them weed, plant flowers, water plants or mulch the garden. People usually do gardening in early March, so you need to advertise the service in late February or early March. This is also a great opportunity to get outside and learn how to garden.

  • For weeding, planting and mulching, you charge by the hour. For example, you can take 100,000 for every hour of work, and if you spend 3 hours mulching the garden on Sunday morning, you will have 300,000.
  • Watering plants is not an hourly job, so you should be compensated based on the number of plants and the frequency of watering.

Wash your car, motorbike or bicycle if you have a large front yard. Get some sponges or rags, old towels, car wash solution, a large bucket and faucet to make a “car wash station” in your front yard for a few hours over the weekend. Scrub each vehicle, paying attention to the dirty areas, rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfiber towel. In the US, you can get 10-20 USD per car. [10] X Research Source

  • Advertise a week in advance to let your neighbors know you’re about to open.
  • You can earn extra money by offering to clean the inside of your car. Vacuum the floor mats, clean the dashboard, and clean the cup holders.
  • If it’s too expensive, “hire” a few friends to lend a hand, but remember that means you have to split the money, too.

Help with housework if you like cleaning. If you have been given pocket money by your parents to do housework, think about whether you can make a little extra money by working a part-time job. You can offer to do laundry, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the entire carpet in the house. You should also let your neighbors know that you can get help with the housework.

  • Neighbors who have trouble doing housework will love your service.
  • Don’t expect your parents to pay for the tasks you have to do like keeping your own room clean or cleaning the kitchen after you use it.

Babysitting helps neighbors if they are on vacation. You will water the plants, take out the trash, check the mailbox, and take care of other things. They may ask you to visit their home once or twice a day, even staying overnight so it doesn’t appear to be empty and running against burglars. Follow your landlord’s rules and instructions, and always remember to lock the door securely when you leave their home. [11] X Research Source

  • If you have to sleep at night, invite your siblings or parents to sleep with you.
  • Ask your neighbor to write down important instructions in case you forget, along with contact information so you can notify them in the event of an emergency or if you have a question.
  • Respect your neighbor’s house. They trust you and give you important tasks, so don’t break that trust by inviting friends over to their house to play, eat, and use their stuff, unless they agree to let you do the work. so.

Take your dog for a walk if you love animals. Ask your neighbors if they need someone to walk their dogs outside. Arrive on time each day, bring extra dog leashes, water bottles, dog food bowls, dog waste bags for backup when needed. Walk your dog for as long as your landlord requires and charge you based on your length of work and experience. [12] X Research Source

  • Save a schedule in your phone or on a calendar to keep track of which dog you take for a walk at what time.
  • You should spend time playing with the dog before taking it for the first walk so that you and the dog get to know each other. Ask your neighbor if you can play with the dog in the backyard about an hour before your first day at work.
  • Know your limits. You may feel shy around certain breeds like pit bulls or aggressive dogs. Refuse if you feel unconfident despite being well-paid.
