Cut the butter or lard into the flour. There are many methods of combining butter with flour, but each method requires a bit of effort. Keep the butter cool and then start cutting it into large chunks. Continue cutting until the butter is about the size of a pea, evenly and evenly incorporated into the dough.

  • Use a food processor. The easiest way to cut avocados is to use a food processor, blend the butter with flour for 1-2 minutes until the butter is chopped into the right size.
  • Use a pulverizer to mash butter or lard. The pulverizer is a great tool for grinding butter to a uniform texture, quickly, with little effort. Roll the pulverizer over the flour mixture, removing the butter from behind the tool’s teeth after rolling it around the bowl (if necessary). This process usually doesn’t take more than a few minutes.
  • Use a fork or two knives. No need to worry if you don’t have a pulverizer or food processor. You can cut the butter with the flat side of a fork or use two knives to cut the butter in opposite directions, or you can even just use the handle of a metal spatula.
  • Just use your fingers on the lard. Lamb fat is not very affected by heat from your hands or from room temperature, so you can use your fingers to crumble it.

Mix cold water into the flour mixture. Pouring cold water spoonfuls at a time into the flour mixture will help gradually introduce the water so that the dough has a thin texture. The mixture should only stick together slightly and form a liquid ball, not too wet.

  • It’s gentle. The key to creating a delicious crust is making sure you don’t over-knead the dough. If you knead the dough too much, the crust will become hard and difficult to handle.
  • The mixture will form soft masses. These soft masses should be moist enough to stick together when you gently press them with your fingers.

Use your hands to roll the dough into a ball. Gently break the dough into a ball and then divide the sphere into two equal parts. This recipe makes two parts dough, one for the pie base and one for the top of the pie.

  • Usually, you should freeze the dough in the fridge until you’re ready to roll and bake. If you’ve preheated the oven and want to get started right away, you can put the dough in the freezer to cool down quickly.
  • If you want to store the dough for a longer time, it is recommended that you freeze it in a resealable freezer bag. When you want to use the dough, you can defrost it in the refrigerator overnight and roll the dough as usual.

Cook meat. Place 2 cups ground meat and 1/2 cup chopped onion in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add thyme, cloves, chopped garlic (if desired) and salt. Toss the meat under the flame to loosen and mix with the seasoning until the meat is browned evenly. [1] X Research Source

  • If you want the cake to taste better, you can add some cinnamon and nutmeg powder as seasoning.

Cut off excess fat. When the meat is thoroughly cooked, use a wooden spoon or spatula to push the meat to one side of the pan and tilt the pan back so the fat flows to the other side. Scoop out the fat or carefully tilt the pan into the container to drain the fat (use a greased jar). Place the cooled fat in a non-recyclable container, close the lid, and dispose of it in a regular trash can. [2] X Trusted Source State of New York Go to Source

  • Don’t pour grease down the kitchen sink or toilet, or even use hot water to wash it down so the grease runs down the drain. This action causes grease to stick to the waste disposal system or harden the drain hose.
  • Be careful when handling hot grease.

Add vegetables and beef broth. Cut a potato into small pieces and place in a pan with 1 1/4 cups beef broth. Add 1/2 cup of carrots and beans. The beef broth will keep the filling moist once the fat has been drained.

  • Potatoes can be peeled if desired.
  • If you like something new, you can use sweet potatoes instead of potatoes.
  • You can add or subtract beef broth if needed, but don’t let the filling get too thin (a lot of water).

Pie Concentrate (optional). You may need to thicken if the filling is too thin. There are many thickening methods you can use: [3] X Research Source

  • Mix 2 teaspoons of flour with 1/4 cup of cold water or 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1/4 cup of cold water and stir into the mixture.
  • Concentrate with flour. Use about 2 tablespoons of flour for each cup of meat filling. Slowly add the flour to the mixture one at a time and stir well. This helps the dough from floating in the meat. Cook and stir for 1 more minute until sauce thickens and foams.
  • Concentrate with cornstarch. Use 1 tablespoon of cornstarch for each cup of sauce. Add about 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to the mixture, stirring until the mixture thickens and foams. Cook for 2 more minutes if using cornstarch.

  • Advice

    • You can bake the cake and freeze it if you want. When reheating, you just need to put the cake on a baking tray and bake in the oven at 150 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes or until the cake is warm.
    • If you have leftover dough, you can roll the dough into thin squares. Then, spread butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and bake. Finally, roll the dough into long balls and cut into small circles. When the temperature is lowered while the pie is baking, you can add the cinnamon slices and bake for about 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
    • Rolling the dough on parchment paper first will make it easier to transfer onto a pie plate.
    • If you don’t want to make your own pie crust, you can buy pre-made pie crusts from the store to speed up the prep process.
    • The pie plate can be placed on a cooling tray after baking to allow it to cool faster.

    Warning

    • Always use gloves when handling baking trays or pie plates directly from the oven.
    • If the oven doesn’t bake the cake evenly, you can rotate the baking dish halfway through the baking time.
