Choose a soap and pour it into a bowl. Soap is the base ingredient of any foaming shower gel. Anyway, the foam comes from there. You will need ½ cup (120 ml) of liquid hand soap of any kind, as long as it is mild. You can choose soap with or without fragrance. If you use unscented soap, then you can scent it with essential oils. If you don’t have hand soap or liquid body soap, here are a few other options:

  • Dish soap, fragrance or not
  • Castile soap liquid, scented or unscented
  • Gentle shampoo, such as baby shampoo

Add an egg white to the bowl. Adding egg whites to your shower gel may sound a bit strange, but it will help make the bubbles bigger and last longer. To get the egg white, you’ll have to separate it from the yolk first, then put it in the ingredients bowl. You can separate the whites from the yolks as follows:

  • Crack an egg and pour the yolk into one of the two halves of the shell. Hold both halves of the eggshell over the bowl and pour the yolk back and forth between the halves. Each time the yolk falls into the eggshell, some of the white falls into the bowl. Continue doing this until all the whites are in the bowl. You can discard the egg yolk or save it for something else, like cooking or making a hair mask.

  • Chamomile
  • Lavender
  • Rose geranium
  • Guide
  • Vanilla

Store shower gel properly. Your shower gel contains egg whites, which means it goes bad easily. When not using shower gel, you need to store it in the refrigerator and try to use it up within a few days.

Consider making a vegan body wash. The egg whites will help the foam stay firm, and the honey will help moisturize the skin, but they don’t have to be in the foaming shower gel; you can still make foaming shower gel without using these ingredients. Here’s how to do it.

Pour soap into mixing bowl. You will need 1.5 cups (350 ml) of liquid Castile soap. You can use fragrance-free and then create your own fragrance. Use a different liquid soap or shampoo if liquid Castile soap is not available, but they may not be olive oil-based or vegan. Here are some options:

  • Fragrance-free dish soap
  • Baby shampoo or other gentle shampoos
  • Liquid hand soap, fragrance or not
  • Shower gel, scented or not

Add glycerin and sugar. Measure out 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin and ½ tablespoon sugar. Put both ingredients in a bowl. The sugar and glycerin help create larger bubbles and last longer.

  • Note that homemade foaming shower gel will not create large, bubbly bubbles like store-bought products.

  • Chamomile
  • Lavender
  • Rose geranium

  • Vanilla

Pour the mixture into a covered container. Pour the foaming shower gel mixture into an airtight container – use a funnel if necessary. You can use any container that can be sealed, such as: a mason jar, a glass jar with a screw cap, or a glass jar with a cork stopper.

  • Put a label on the shower gel bottle to make your own mark.
  • Decorate the shower gel bottle with rhinestones glued or tied around.
  • Glycerin may settle to the bottom of the vial. This phenomenon is normal, as glycerin is heavier than soap and water. You just need to shake the bottle a little and stir before using the foaming shower gel. [1] X Research Source

    • Turn off the lights in the bathroom and light some candles for a relaxing effect.
    • Do something relaxing while soaking in the bath, such as meditating, reading, even getting a manicure.
    • Note that most home-made foaming body washes won’t foam as much as commercial products. The reason is the lack of c1o surfactant with foaming action. [8] X Research Sources

    Warning

    • If you light a candle, you need to watch out. Don’t light a candle without keeping an eye on it.
    • Don’t lock the bathroom door so that in case you slip, fall and get injured, someone else can come in to help.
    • Your skin may dry out if you soak it for too long.
    • If you are a woman, be aware that foaming shower gel can lead to vaginal irritation. [9] X Research Source
    • Avoid soaking in bubble baths or hot water if you are pregnant to prevent pregnancy complications. [10] X Research Source
