Cut 6-10 layers of paper for each nail. You can use newspaper, magazine, craft paper, printing paper, even tissue paper, but thick paper will make your nails stronger. Cut the paper into the correct nail shape and size for each nail, then use the cut out template to make more layers of paper of the same shape and size. [1] X Research Source Stack several layers of paper on top of each other, place the pattern on top, and cut the circle around to make the same shapes.

  • The more layers of paper you use, the stronger the false nails will be.
  • If you find it difficult to keep the layers of paper together, you can use tape to seal the stack of paper loosely or use a paperclip to hold the stack until you need it.
Stir in the dough with 1 tablespoon of flour and a little water. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour in a bowl containing just enough water to form a thick paste like paste. [2] X Source of Research This paste will harden as it dries, helping to keep nails strong and healthy.

  • Another way is to mix cornstarch and cold water at a ratio of 1:1 in a bowl until there are no lumps left. Mix about 80 ml of this mixture. Stir the mixture with 1 cup (240 ml) of boiling water, then wait for the mixture to cool and thicken. [3] X Research Sources
  • Cover with plastic to protect the work surface when mixing and stir the dough to keep it from getting dirty.
Use the powdered mixture to glue the paper nail layers together. Using a small paintbrush, spread a thin layer of the flour or cornstarch mixture on each nail-shaped piece of paper. After applying one layer, stick a nail layer of the same size on top. Continue like this until all the layers of paper stick together into a fake nail, then move on to the next nail. [4] X Research Sources

  • When you’re done with a nail, spread powder over the front and back to seal the nail.
  • If you’ve ever made paper mache crafts, you’ll find the process is similar. You just need to do the same to make fake nails! [5] X Research Sources

Wait a night for the nails to dry. Now that the fake nails have been glued, you will need to wait patiently for a while. Leave the fake nails in a dry place overnight to harden. [6] X Research Sources

  • After drying your nails for a few hours, gently curl them. You need to bend the nail slightly in the middle to match the curve of the real nail.
Cut and file nails. Once the nails are completely dry, you can use scissors to reshape the nail. Smooth out rough edges with a nail file or stick. [7] X Research Sources

  • If the false nails are powdered after cutting and filing, you can use a makeup brush to remove the powder. [8] X Research Sources
Glue the false nails with nail tape. Use fake nail tape or skin-safe double-sided tape (like wig tape) to attach the fake nail to the real nail. Remember that the real nail must be clean and dry so that the fake nail can stick firmly.

  • You can file the real nail polish first to make the fake nail stick better.
  • You can buy wig tape, double-sided tape, or nail glue stick online or at cosmetic stores.
Paint your nails to your liking. Apply two coats of transparent base coat. Wait for it to dry and apply the paint you like. Unless you prefer to keep the rustic look of the paper nails intact, you should choose opaque paint to cover the paper underneath. [9] X Research Source

  • Remember to paint the ends of the nail to cover the nail and hide the layers of paper underneath.
  • Get creative with unique nail decorations! Add stones, decals or pretty textures to complete the fake nails.
  • These nails will not last as long as standard stickers like acrylic, gel or plastic nails. However, this can be a good choice if you want fancy nails in a day or two.
  • While multiple coats of paint can make it difficult for fake nails to absorb water, it’s probably not completely waterproof. Water will damage the paper once it gets inside. You should wear gloves when showering and be careful when washing your hands.

Fake nails made of plastic straws

Cut a plastic straw into 10 short pieces. Cut a straw into several small tubes the same length as the length of the false nail you want. False nails made of straws are quite stiff, so you can cut them as long as you want! These nails will cover the entire nail, from the cuticle to the tip, so you need to cut each section long enough to cover the nail plus one more at the tip. [10] X Research Source

  • You may have to use more straws if you want really long false nails.
  • Plastic straws of any type can be used to make artificial nails. However, if you use a twisted straw, cut the twist off and use only the straight part.
Cut the straws into nail shapes. Use sharp scissors to cut along the straw to open it. So you’ve got a curved piece of plastic that matches a real nail. Cut the straw to the shape and size that fits each nail. [11] X Research Source

  • You can also trim the tip of the nail to the shape you want. For example, you can cut sharp, cut flat, or cut round.
Use double-sided tape to apply another layer. If the newly cut nails seem a bit soft, you can reinforce them with other pieces of straws. Apply double-sided tape to the underside of each nail, then add a piece of straw the same length as the length of the nail above. [12] X Research Source

  • If a piece of reinforced straw sticks out after sticking, you can use scissors or a nail clipper to cut it flat.

Decorate your nails before applying them to your nails if you like. If you use colored or patterned straws, you may not want to cover your nails with nail polish. However, even if you like the background color of the straws, you can still beautify it a little more! One option is to paint the nails with acrylic or nail polish before applying. Flatten the nail and stick it to a piece of paper with double-sided tape, then use a small paintbrush or nail tool to create patterns. [13] X Research Source

  • If you have nail art, you must let it dry completely before applying it on your finger so it doesn’t smudge.
  • You can also use craft glue to attach the stones to your nails or stick them on a pretty decal.
Stick the nail with double-sided tape. Before applying nail polish, clean and polish the real nails to help the fake nails stick better. [14] X Source of Study Use nail tape or skin-safe double-sided tape such as wig tape to attach nails. Apply a piece of tape to each nail. Peel off the paper to expose the adhesive side of the tape, then press the false nail in to stick.

  • False nails glued with double-sided tape or nail tape can stay on for 5 days before they come off.

Nail polish of your choice. If you haven’t decorated your nails yet, now is the time to do so. Apply a few coats of your favorite nail polish and your new manicure is done. [15] X Research Source

  • Since these are plastic nails, you don’t have to worry about them getting wet. However, be careful when dipping your hands in soapy water to avoid loosening the nail tape.
  • If the nail still retains its original shape after being peeled off, you can always use it again!

Nail tips made of tissue paper and craft glue

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/e/e7/Make-Fake-Nails-at-Home-Without-Nail-Glue-Step-14-Version-3.jpg/ v4-728px-Make-Fake-Nails-at-Home-Without-Nail-Glue-Step-14-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/ e/e7/Make-Fake-Nails-at-Home-Without-Nail-Glue-Step-14-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Make-Fake-Nails-at-Home-Without-Nail-Glue- Step-14-Version-3.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:259,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:410,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output “></div>”}
Cut 10 pieces of layered tissue paper to the desired nail length. You can use toilet paper or craft foam paper, which people often put in gift bags. Use multi-layered tissue paper so each nail has at least 4 layers – this will make the nail stronger. Cut the tissue into pieces as long as the tip of the nail you want, plus one-third the length of your real nail. [16] X Research Source

  • If you’re using craft foam paper or single-layer paper towels, you can also cut them into long strips, then fold the paper fan to create multiple layers. [17] X Research Source
  • You only need to cut the tip of the nail, not the entire nail. With this technique, you will use paper to extend the tip of the nail, then cover the rest of the nail with nail polish.

Spread a few drops of milk glue between each layer of paper. Use a PVA milk glue that becomes transparent when dry, such as Elmer’s Glue-All, Gorilla Wood Glue, or Fevicp. Use a small paintbrush to apply glue to each layer of tissue paper and press down to form a stronger nail tip. [18] X Research Sources
Roll the pen or brush over the tips of the nail to squeeze the layers of paper. This step also helps to create a slight curvature so that the tip of the nail matches the natural shape of the real nail. [19] X Research Source

  • Do not wrap the paper tightly around the body of the pen or brush. You just need to place the piece of paper in your hand and gently roll the pen body along the length like a dough roller.

Wait for the nail tip to dry. Place the nail tips in a warm and dry place for the glue to harden. The tip of the nail is small in size, so it dries quickly. [20] X Research Source

  • Depending on the amount of glue used, PVA glue usually dries in 30 minutes. It will take up to 24 hours for the nail to completely dry, harden and become waterproof. [21] X Research Source
Mix nail polish and teho milk glue in equal proportions. You will use this mixture to attach the tip of the nail to the real nail, while also hardening the tip and creating a nail-like texture. Mix a few drops of glue with an equal amount of clear nail polish. [22] X Research Source

  • You can also make a similar glue by mixing clear craft glue with cornstarch to form a thick paste. [23] X Source of Research This mixture may be slightly harder when it dries than a mixture of glue and nail polish.
  • Depending on the temperature and dryness of the area where you work, you may need to act quickly before the glue begins to dry. However, craft glue usually takes half an hour to dry completely, so you don’t have to rush.
Apply the glue just mixed on the nail tips. Use a small paintbrush to apply a mixture of glue and nail polish to each nail. You only need to apply glue about 1/3 to 1/2 of the nail length, from the center of the nail to the tip. This is the part of the nail that will be covered by the paper nail tip. The rest of the nail from the center of the nail to the cuticle will be covered with nail polish. [24] X Research Source
Attach the tip of the nail to the nail. Press the nail tip made of tissue paper into each nail. [25] X Research Sources False nail tips are still weak, so be careful not to tear or break them.

  • Make sure your real nails are clean and dry before applying false nail tips. The glue will stick better if the nail is not dirty, wet or oily. You can even use rubbing alcohol to make your nails cleaner and drier.

Trim the tip of the nail to the desired shape. Once the glue has dried a bit, use scissors to fix the tip shape. Feel free to cut to your liking. [26] X Research Sources

  • Short, flat tips are less likely to break or tear than long, narrow tips.
Apply a mixture of glue and nail polish to the tips of the false nails. Using a small paintbrush or nail polish brush, apply a layer of homemade glue mixture to each false nail tip. To seal the tips, you need to apply glue on both the top and bottom of each nail. [27] X Research Source
Apply a layer of clear polish on each nail. This step strengthens the nail and smooths the surface of the tissue. Apply nail polish to both the tip and the rest of the real nail. Paint both edges and undersides of nail tips. [28] X Research Sources

  • To make your nails stronger and more waterproof, you should apply 2-3 layers of clear or base polish. [29] X Research Sources
  • After you finish painting one coat, you need to wait for it to dry before applying another coat.

Paint your nails with your favorite color polish. You should choose an opaque paint to cover the tip of the tissue paper underneath. Now let’s enjoy the new nails you just made yourself! [30] X Research Source

  • Remember that these nails probably break down much faster than acrylic, plastic, or gel nails. Tissue nails can last for a few days if you take good care of them.
  • Even with a few coats of polish, these nails are probably not water-resistant. Avoid soaking your nails in water and use gloves when bathing.

Attach false nails with false nail tape. These are double-sided tapes that are cut into the shape of a nail and are a great substitute for nail glue. You just stick the tape on the real nail and press the fake nail on top. Read the user manual for instructions on how to remove the tape. Depending on the type of glue on the tape, you can soak it in soapy water to loosen it or rub coconut or olive oil to loosen it.

  • False nail tape may not be as durable as nail glue, but many brands guarantee it can keep fake nails for up to 5 days if used carefully.
  • Be sure to choose the right false nail tape instead of the nail protector, which has only one side.
  • Any adhesive product will stick better when applied to clean nails. Use a little acetone or rubbing alcohol to clean the oil in your nails that can make the tape difficult to stick.

Use a small amount of tape to glue the wig. Wig Tape is a double-sided tape and can be used safely on nails and skin. To use this tape as an alternative to false nail glue, simply cut multiple pieces of the size and shape to match the nails. Apply the adhesive tape to the nail and press the prepared false nails on top of the adhesive. When you want to remove the fake nail, you will peel off the nail, then peel off the adhesive tape.

  • If the stain remains, you can dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to loosen the glue.
  • Just like wig tape, wig tape is not as durable as nail glue. However, this is also a great option if you only want to wear false nails for a few days.

Glue fake nails with gel base polish. Use nail polish remover to remove polish or other products that may be on your nails. Then, use a file to smooth the surface of the nail to make it easier to stick. Apply a clear base coat on the nail, press the false nail up and hold your hand under the UV lamp for about 30 seconds to dry the gel. [31] X Research Source

  • Like false nail glue, false nail gel can be a bit harsh on nails. Using ultraviolet lamps that dry the gel too often can also damage the skin and increase the risk of skin cancer. [32] X Trusted Source American Academy of Dermatpogy Go to source However, you can use this method when you don’t have anything else to stick with.
  • Use an acetone-based nail polish remover to remove the gel nail polish. Acetone can dry out the skin and nails, so apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline cream) or cuticle oil to your nails and cuticles to keep them moist after removing the gel. Apply nail protection stickers when using false nail glue. If you like the strength of nail glue but are afraid of damaging your nails, then nail protectors will be a good choice. Similar to artificial nail tape, nail protectors are designed to be applied directly to the nail but can form a protective film between the nail and whatever is on it. After applying the nail protector, simply apply glue, self-adhesive false nails, gel or any product of your choice on top of the protector.

    • If you are going to use a nail protector with self-adhesive false nails, check the product label first. Some nail protectors are designed to be used under gels and acrylics, not under self-adhesive artificial nails.
    • Always clean nails first with nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt, oil or nail polish residue. This step will help the nail polish stick better.
    • Check the packaging for instructions on how to remove the nail protector. Some brands have special tools to help you peel off the patch after use.
