The scab is a protective covering on the surface of a wound, made up of dried blood, plasma, and immune cells. Since it has the function of protecting the wound, you should not use force to pry this scab. Scaling can cause irritation, slow healing, and put you at risk of infection. Removing the scabs from acne is also very difficult, trying to pry them off early will increase the risk of scarring. The bottom line is that you need to keep the scab soft, moist, and supple, and stimulate the growth of the young skin underneath. If you have acne scars, you can apply different methods to help the wound heal faster, but you should note that acne needs to go through a healing process before it disappears.
Steps
Wash to remove scabs
- You need to use a clean towel each time you wash the scales. Reusable towels will spread bacteria and slow down the healing process.
- Washing with oil will help remove some small flakes. However, you should only remove small pieces that can come off easily. Don’t try to pry them off.
- The scab will fall off within five to seven days. Some may peel earlier or later, don’t try to force them to come off prematurely.
- Do not rub when applying. You should only apply and hold the towel over the scab.
- Repeat every day until the scab is gone.
- Be careful not to put Epsom salt on your face.
Remove acne scabs with plantain leaves
- In the United States, many people do not realize that the tree that grows in their yard is plantain, because the tree has the same name as a banana-like fruit. Psyllium leaves are used as medicinal herbs different from the fruit also called plantain. [7] X Research Sources
- If fresh psyllium leaves are not available, you can order dried plantains and herbs from herbal stores. You can also buy pre-refined psyllium ointments and lotions.
- After the mixture has cooled, add a few drops of essential oils of your choice. You can choose from almond oil, castor oil, or mineral oil.
- You can use dried plantain leaves, mixed with essential oils and boiled to make a topical cream.
- You can keep the cream on the scabs for as long as you want, such as leaving it overnight and washing it off in the morning, or applying it and then rinsing it off in the shower.
Peel off acne scabs with aloe vera
- You can buy aloe vera leaves at the fruit and vegetable counter in many supermarkets.
- Repeat 4 to 5 times a day.
- Aloe vera gel provides moisture to the scab, thus helping to stimulate wound healing.
Get rid of acne scabs with other herbs
- You can also apply onion or garlic juice and leave it overnight.
- Some people experience irritation when using onion and garlic juice. If your skin is irritated, use another method.
- Both onion juice and garlic juice have antibacterial, antifungal, and wound-healing properties. They have long been used to help heal wounds and avoid scarring, especially after surgery. Pilot study evaluating topical onion extract as treatment for postsurgical scars. Dermatpogic surgery. 1999 Apr 1;25(4):267-9.
- Apply this four to five times a day or apply honey and leave it overnight.
- Medicinal honeys, such as Manuka are preferred by many, but using natural honey also has the same effect.
- Marigold essential oil has wound-healing properties. [16] X Research Source Preethi KC, Kuttan R. Wound healing activity of flower extract of Calendula offlcinalis. Journal of basic and clinical physipogy and pharmacpogy. 2009;20(1):73-80.
- There are also many creams, lotions and ointments made from marigold flowers on the market that you can use.
- Apple cider vinegar stimulates new cell growth and has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. [18] X Research Sources
Warning
- Although you may want to, you absolutely must not pry the scabs from a wound or acne. Prying the scab will leave a scar and cause an infection.
