Place socks on a flat surface. Place the soles of the feet on top. This will create a crease in the heel.
Cut socks to make the head. Draw a circle at the toe of the sock, taking the curve at the tip of the toe as the basis. Add ears above the circle to outline the bear’s head. This section only takes up ¼ of the sock length. Cut just above the ear. When you’re done, cut a small line in the bottom of the circle to make a hole for the neck of the bear.
Cut hands and feet. Right on the heel, you will see the fabric tube going up the foot. Starting from the curve at the heel all the way to the hem of the sock, divide this distance in half with your eyes. Cut the middle part just divided earlier in the long socks. Divide the cut part in two to make the bear’s hand. Cut a short section in the middle of the larger sock, cut to the heel. This part will form the body and legs of the bear.
Stuff and sew the top. Turn the left side of the head out, then use a sewing machine or hand sew the ears. When you’re done stitching, turn right side out and then stuff the cotton in. Sew the neck back when the head size is as desired.

  • You can buy stuffed animals at a craft store. If you don’t want to, you can use cotton wool or rags to stuff the bear.

Stuff and sew the bear body. Turn the torso left side out, then use a sewing machine or hand sew the legs. When you’re done stitching, turn right side out and stuff the bodice. Sew the neck back when the size of the bear body is as desired.
Attach the head and body of the bear. Hand-stitch the head to the body with a comb or saddle stitch.
Bear hand stitch. Cut the tail of the sock in half to make a hand. Sew each side and then stuff it. Sew them to the body when you are satisfied with their shape.
Complete! Let’s get to know our new bear friend! You can sew more buttons to make eyes or use stitches for the nose.

Use Felt Fabric

Make bear hands. Cut a piece of fabric in the shape of a rabbit ear. Use them to make hands. Sew the two pieces of fabric together using a machine or a basic stitch to make a bear sleeve. Leave the bottom of your hand for stuffing.

Make a bear paw. Repeat the above step with a slightly larger cloth to make the legs. You can change the shape of the legs to make the bear look like it’s sitting or look different.
Draw and tilt the head. Draw the side view you want for your bear. Cut two pieces of fabric according to the shape you just drew. Next, sew them up from the neck to the nose.
Cut the padding fabric for the head. Cut the cushion fabric, or the piece of fabric between the two previously cut and sewn pieces of fabric. Draw the shape of a men’s tie and be long enough to reach the center of the nose, around the back of the neck. You will need to fold and staple them before stitching.
Sew the padding on. After you have drawn the shape and cut it out, sew the spacer between the two previous head cloths.
Familiarize. Now you will need to make the bear body. Start with two rectangular pieces of fabric. Then cut inwards at each corner. Sew the edges together, along the long edge, you should have a short tube when you’re done stitching. Now sew one of the short edges, not the rounded cut. The arms and legs will be sewn to the body from these round holes.
Turn all sewn cloths out. Use a pencil for support. Hide the sewing thread in.
Stuff and attach the head. Pre-stuff the top of the bear and sew it on to the upper body, on the short unstitched side.

  • There will be some cotton sticking out. That’s still okay.

Attach hands and feet. Sew the sides of the arms to the rounded corners leaving the top open. Sew the leg in the same way, but leave one leg alone. Fill it with cotton, then sew the last leg in.
Cut and attach the ear. Cut the fabric into half circles to make the ears. Fold in half and sew the ears to the head.
Make a face for a bear. Sew some more details (like the nose and mouth) with embroidery thread or buttons.
Make eyes with buttons. Now you can sew your bear’s eyes. Use buttons if you want, or buy fake animal eyes at your local craft store.

  • Eye sutures are better for young children because they tend to put things in their mouths.
  • Let’s enjoy a new stuffed animal! Take good care of your new stuffed animal or give it to someone you love.
  • Advice

    • Sew tightly so the bear can hold for a long time.
    • You can make clothes for teddy bears.
    • Make sure when stitching you sew the pieces together tightly.
    • If making clothes, choose a lovely fabric (if it’s a teddy bear) you can choose a pink or similar fabric, and make pajamas, sportswear, jeans, tops, sweaters, etc.
    • Make sure you sew it tightly, otherwise when you stuff and play, all the cotton will come out.

    Warning

    • Children should be closely watched while they are making teddy bears.
    • Scissors and needles are quite sharp so be careful when handling and using them.
