Select the ingredients to put inside the ball. For a palm-sized ball, you will need about 160 to 240 grams of stuffing. You can choose any of the following ingredients:

  • For a firm ball, you’ll use flour, baking soda, or cornstarch (also called cornstarch in some areas).
  • For a ball that doesn’t get too tight, you’ll use rice, small peas or beans that have been split in half, or fine sand available at craft stores.
  • If you want the right ball, you will combine rice with flour. This way, the ball will be more durable than when using only flour.

Blow gently into the ball (optional). This isn’t strictly necessary, but can be useful if the ball isn’t elastic enough to let other ingredients inside. Blow up the ball to a width of about 7.5cm to 12.5cm, then hold the mouth of the ball, not tie it.

  • The easiest way to do this is to use forceps or have someone else hold the mouth of the ball.
  • If you let the air out while putting the ingredients inside the ball, everything will be pushed out and become very messy.
Place a funnel in the mouth of the ball. If you don’t have a funnel, you’ll put the ingredients in a plastic bottle and wrap the ball top in the mouth of the bottle. Squeeze a plastic cup so you can easily scoop the ingredients into the ball, but this can still get dirty.
Slowly put the ingredients inside the ball. With a palm-sized ball, you will put the ingredients into the ball with a depth of about 5cm to 7.5cm. Pour ingredients slowly to avoid clogging the mouth of the ball.

  • If the mouth of the ball is clogged, you can use a pencil or the handle of a spoon to push the ingredients down.
Squeeze to let the air in the balloon escape and then tie the mouth of the ball tightly. Remove the funnel from the balloon and let the air inside the balloon escape. Then fasten the mouth of the ball.

  • To push the air out, you will grasp the part near the mouth of the ball and then release the index finger and thumb slightly. However, pulling the ball’s mouth too wide can cause the flour to come out.

Cut off the excess after tying the mouth of the ball. Use scissors to cut off the top exposed outside the knot after tying the mouth of the ball. Be careful not to cut too close to the knot or the ball will burst.

Use the sewing method to create a stress relief ball

Wrap a piece of memory foam around the rubber ball. You can buy rubber balls at a children’s toy store, and memory foam can be purchased at a clothing supply store or a website that specializes in foam sales. You need a piece of foam measuring 9cm x 12.5cm, about 2.5cm to 7.5cm thick. The thicker the memory foam pad, the softer the stress ball will be and the easier it will be to squeeze.
Sew foam to cover the outside of the rubber ball. Wrap foam around the rubber ball and sew it tight with a needle. Trim off excess foam if necessary, so that the ball returns to its original round shape.
  • Sew an extra sock or thick fabric over the foam. An old sock will help create a strong wrap on the outside of the ball, but you can also use a thick fabric. Shorten socks or fabric to wrap tightly around the memory foam. So you’ve made a stress ball.
  • Things you need

    Balloon method:

    • A balloon (do not choose a water balloon)

    Advice

    • You can easily use a brush to decorate the ball.
    • Mixing cornstarch with a tablespoon of water will make the ball feel soft in the hand and hard when squeezed. Leave this ball in place for about 20 minutes before using, while waiting for the cornstarch to absorb the water. However, this type of ball can only be used for a short period of time.
    • Don’t add too much water to the cornstarch to avoid creating a liquid mixture.
    • Make sure not to add too much ingredients so the ball gets full!
    • Try popping seeds into transparent balloons!
    • Using kinetic sand will make the ball soft and very unique!
    • Don’t use water and flour to make a stress ball as these two ingredients will create a play dough!
    • Wrap a piece of net around the ball to relieve stress. This will create an interesting effect when you squeeze the ball!

    • Adding sand and water can thin the balloon’s rubber and make it more fragile.
