Michelada is a famous Mexican cocktail or brewed beer in Mexico in the 1940s when people started mixing beer with chili sauce or Salsa sauce. Today, Michelada is gradually popular in many parts of the world and is compared to the Bloody Mary cocktail. Authentic Michelada cocktails must have lemon, salt, Worcestershire sauce, Maggi seasoning or soy sauce. The traditional Michelada flavor reflects the true origin of the cocktail’s name, mi chela helada , meaning “my light and cool beer”.

Steps

Michelada Tomato

Cut a lemon in half. Place the lemon on a cutting board and cut it in half with a clean knife.
Use half a lemon to rub the rim of the glass. The glass must be cooled first for the salt to stick.
Place the rim of the glass on the salt pan. Press the rim of the glass gently on the salt and swirl it around so the salt sticks around the rim. Try to make the salt stick evenly to create a nice look.

  • Use a small plate if you don’t have a salt pan. That way, you won’t have to use much and waste salt.
Fill the glass with ice cubes. Although the glass is already cold and you can drink the beer without ice, the ice cubes will make the drink taste better, have a more refreshing and refreshing taste.
Place the remaining half of the lemon in the hand juicer and squeeze the lemon juice over the ice. If you don’t have a hand-held juicer, you can directly squeeze it manually and pour lemon juice over the ice. Be careful not to let the lemon seeds fall into the glass.
Add the sauce and Clamato water. Do not add too much because these spices are quite strong. If your taste buds are sensitive, you should only add a few drops of Tabasco sauce for flavor.
Pour beer into the glass. Pour beer over ice cubes, lime juice and sauce. If you like, you can use other Mexican beers. However, the traditional tomato Michelada is often mixed with light beer like Corona.
Stir with a long spoon. If not stirred, the ingredients will not mix well and the taste will not be good.

Michelada Black

Cut the lemon into four parts. Use 1/4 of a lemon to rub around the rim of the glass so that the salt can stick to the rim of the glass in the next step. Keep the remaining lemon for squeezing and garnish.
Rub salt around the rim of the glass. Prepare a small salt pan or dish and place the glass upside down. Turn slowly and carefully so that the salt evenly coats the rim of the glass.

  • If you find that part of the rim of the glass is not yet salted, add more lemon juice. Wipe the rim of the glass with a napkin and start over (if you want the glass to look good and the drink to taste just right).

Prepare the bowl. Mix Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, lime juice and black pepper together.

  • Pour beer into the bowl. Pour in the beer very slowly so that the mixture is evenly mixed and the beer foams more. Then stir to combine all ingredients.
Pour the mixture into the glass. Be careful not to spill it out and let the salt run off. Garnish with a slice of lemon and enjoy.
  • Complete.
  • Advice

    • You can mix Chilean chili powder with salt before rubbing it around the rim of the glass for a spicy taste.
    • Tequila can be added to Michelada cocktails.
    • Two green lemons (small) can be used in place of one yellow lemon (medium size).
    • Juice and sour can be mixed with beer to create a brewed beer . However, it is not a Michelada cocktail as there is no Worcestershire sauce, Maggi seasoning or soy sauce.
    • You can add salt to the glass before you pour the beer, but be careful because salt will cause the beer to foam more.
    • Dried chili powder can be used instead (or together with) chili sauce.
    • In Puerto Vallarta, the traditional Michelada doesn’t have chili sauce. Here, Michelada only has ice cubes, broth and Mexican beer.
    • The Michelada cocktail with chili sauce is sometimes called “Michelada Cubana” (but the relationship between this drink and Cuba is still unknown).

    Warning

    • Drink beer responsibly
    • Worcestershire sauce is generally not suitable for vegetarians because it contains anchovies. You can buy vegan Worcestershire sauce at natural food stores or substitute it with soy sauce.
    • Clamato water is also not suitable for vegetarians as it contains clam broth.
