Make a list of what you want to achieve. A “bucket list” can help you determine where your heart wants to go. Try to set goals that you’re likely to achieve (but not “becoming the first man to Mars”). This list can be a great source of inspiration when you are struggling to find meaning in life. If it really comes from the heart, it will reflect your deepest passions and aspirations. [1] X Research Source

Create an open space. The first step to getting in touch with your heart in a deeper way is to give it time and space to let it speak. You need to sit still and not let any distractions disturb your heart to listen to it. Maybe you want to create a place to just sit back and relax. If you have an extra room in your house, you can light candles and create a comfortable environment in which to practice. [2] X Research Source

Listen to the heart. Once you have the right conditions in place, you can begin to practice heart-opening mindfulness. You may want to ask yourself, “What am I feeling deep inside of me right now?” Wait a moment after asking to see if your heart responds. This is the kind of practice that helps the heart and inner desires to come out. [3] X Research Sources

  • You can also use a technique called Focusing, which is a great technique for getting in touch with the body. [4] X Research Source Here’s how to do the Focus technique:
  • Once you’ve cleared the space, ask what’s going on inside of you, paying close attention to what your body responds to. Don’t try to explore it, give yourself space to observe. For example, you may feel a claustrophobic feeling in your chest when you ask about what’s going on inside of you. There should be distance to realize it.
  • Begin to understand bodily sensations. It usually comes in the form of a word or short phrase. For example, you can say “suffocating” or “chest pressure” or “pressure”. Try to think of many words until you pinpoint the problem.
  • Consider how your body feels and the words that describe it. Check out how they interact with each other. See if your bodily sensations change at all when you correctly identify the emotion’s name.
  • Ask yourself what is causing this bodily sensation. What in your life is making you feel stuffy in your chest right now? Don’t be in a hurry to give an answer, let it happen on its own. This may not happen the first time. The Concentration Technique takes practice, but it involves a series of steps to help you open up your heart and everything that’s going on inside of you.

Set aside time each day. A busy life can actually reduce your ability to live up to your heart’s calling. Take time out of your day and every day to yourself. Don’t let anything else get in the way this time. Do what you want, and here are a few suggestions:

  • Meditation. There are many mental and physical health benefits to you from meditation, such as lowering blood pressure and reducing stress. [5] X Research Source Try sitting upright for at least 10 minutes in a quiet place. Focus on one thing, like the feeling of air going in and out of your nostrils, or an object like a pencil. When you stop paying attention to the object, gently remind yourself to bring your attention back. [6] X Research Source
  • Long bath. Relaxing in the water has the same effect as other relaxation methods. It’s a great way to relax. You can use this time to reflect on life, or enjoy the silence and feeling of a warm bath. [7] X Research Sources
  • Spend some time drinking coffee with a friend. Perhaps you didn’t spend as much time contacting your friends as you would have liked. Use this “your time” to invite a close friend out for lunch or coffee together.

Find a hobby to activate your heart. The brain is under a great deal of pressure from society. It says that you should “think before you act” and make sound decisions. However, this doesn’t leave much room for your intuition or your heart. These things can make life more enjoyable rather than routine and productive. Finding activities that touch your heart can help keep the path of life open, not just existential.

  • For example, if you love to read, make sure you make time for reading in your schedule. Ask your friends to recommend you good books. A collection of poems can bring a lot of emotions.
  • If you are a movie buff, find some highly rated movies that will be able to touch your heart.
  • Spending time in nature is also a good option; it can help you be healthier and understand yourself better. [8] X Research Sources

Organize your life

Seek therapy if it seems helpful. If the obstacles that keep you from following your heart seem beyond your ability to deal with, or with the help of a friend, consider seeing a therapist. Many doctors regularly deal with this problem. If you had a traumatic childhood, an unhappy marriage, or if you’ve just been devastated by a series of stressful issues, therapy can help you rediscover your heart and feel alive again. healthier. • Somatic experiencing therapy is similar to the Concentration technique. It focuses on bodily sensations instead of thoughts and memories.
  • Cognitive–behavioral therapy can help you check for fixed thoughts and beliefs that may be preventing you from following your heart.
  • Find a therapist in your local area. For example, if you live in the United States, you have access to this website.

Ask your friends for help. Sometimes it’s hard to discover your own heart. For this task, enlist the help of a friend. You can actually use the Focus technique with a friend, take the steps together, and report what happens. You can also just talk about what is happening in your life right now and express a desire to get more in touch with the calling of your heart. See if your friend has any advice for you. Expressing is also very helpful, because expressing your feelings in words is very powerful. [10] X Research Source

  • For example, you could say, “Hey, I feel like I’m not really living up to my heart right now. I really need someone to talk to about this. Would you be willing to help me?”

Enjoy your own life. We are prone to living on pressure from others, such as friends, family, spouse, or children. If you want to live according to your heart, make sure you are living your own desires instead of the desires of others. This is one of the most common regrets reported from people dying in bed. [11] X Research Source

  • Ask yourself: “Is this what I really want, or am I doing it for someone else and not for myself?”
  • Of course, there’s nothing wrong with being generous and working to help others. However, you were able to find a balance when you were true to who you were: being kind and helping others. Otherwise, even with good intentions, you are likely to fail and lose connection with your heart’s calling.

Commit yourself to following the chosen path. Changing your mind can be an easy way to get through difficult situations, but if you don’t always stick to what you’ve said before, you’ll never learn from your mistakes or create problems. get any progress. Committed to following your path is very important in life. Commitment will give you the strength to keep facing difficulties. Following the call of your heart is not an easy task. [12] X Research Sources If you feel a lot of resistance to this commitment, no matter what your education or career, then you should check to see if you’re really living your heart’s calling your own or not.

  • Avoid confusing natural and difficult resistance with more serious resistance. It’s normal to feel depressed sometimes, even when you’re on the right path. If you’re not sure if you’re doing the right thing, try asking someone you trust, like a close friend or family member.

Clean and organize personal space. You may be surprised to learn how much your environment affects your mood. For example, color can have a big influence on how people feel. [13] X Research Resources Make sure your home is clean and tidy. Paint the walls another color if you don’t like them. Decorate with artwork that inspires you and creates “a response to beauty”. Arrange pictures of loved ones around. Implementing simple home organization techniques will change the way you feel and make it easier for you to reach your true desires. A messy and cluttered environment can create chaos in your mind, and will limit your ability to follow your heart.

Act the way you want

Engage in emotional activities. You can do some creative activities to understand what your heart desires. The goal is to open up to your heart’s calling, or deepest longing. The self-expression style used in art therapy can help you become more open to yourself and to your heart’s calling. Here are some ideas you can implement:

  • Music. Try joining a choir and taking guitar lessons.
  • Art. Go to a painting or sculpture class.
  • Dancing. Enroll in a Latin salsa class or even take dance classes at the gym.
  • Dramatic. Find out if there are any theater groups around that you can join. Acting is a great way to express creativity.

Free notes. Life can cause your real desires and daily activities to be framed, paralyzed by obligations and expectations. Practicing something like freelance writing can help you access your heart and begin to develop a closer relationship with your heart’s calling.

  • Choose a topic and write it at the top of a piece of paper. The topic can be a word like “travel”, or a short statement, like “what do I think about travel”. Set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes and try to write about the topic without thinking much about what you’re doing. Don’t plan ahead. The goal is to let your unconscious mind work instead of letting the central part of your brain take over. [14] X Research Source

Practice mindfulness. There are two different ways to live your true life: existence and action. The “action” mode is when many people find themselves using a lot of busy time. It’s the mode needed in our fast-paced, high-pressure culture, and it’s really helpful moving forward. However, “action” mode can make it difficult to listen to your needs and live slowly enough to enjoy life. Mindfulness meditation can help you enhance your “survival” lifestyle, helping you to start following your heart. [15] X Research Source

  • Sit in a comfortable, upright position. Get used to this position for a few minutes. Start paying attention to what is happening in your experience. You will have a lot of wandering thoughts, body sensations, and random emotional spikes. Pay attention to all of this and what else is going on. Do your best to stay “curious” while you don’t have to react to what’s happening. Pretend you are a scientist and you want to observe this experience without interfering with it. Once you’ve practiced sitting in a safe and quiet place, you can try it out in your daily life while you’re doing other things. [16] X Research Source

Take a big step forward. Based on your bucket list and your overall goals, decide to make a big move if necessary. It could be going back to school to gain more knowledge, moving to another city with better opportunities or closer to family, or giving up a job to do something more closely related to your goals. want from your heart. It’s a good idea to talk to your friends and family about relocating before you start moving, to know what they think and gain their support.

For example, maybe you want to spend more time with friends, or spend less time watching television. Consult your “to-do list before you die” to see if you can make small adjustments to achieve what you really want to change.
  • Advice

    • Be confident, but not arrogant.

    Warning

    • If you think your heart is telling you one thing and your mind is saying something else, take some time to think it over. Rushing is not always good.
