Steps

Horizontal shoelace style

Count the number of pairs of holes in your shoes. Vans shoes with an even number of pairs of holes can perform a crisscross pattern. If your shoe has an odd number of pairs of holes, the basic lacing principle can still be applied, but you will have to make some adjustments to the lacing technique.
Thread each end of the shoelace into each hole of the bottom pair of holes near the toe. The shoelace will now become a line across the bottom pair of holes with the remaining two pieces of lace inside. Keep the left shoelace on the left and the right shoelace on the right.
Thread the right shoelace from below so it is pulled out through the next second hole on the right. Hiding the shoelaces inside is what makes this method unique.

  • It doesn’t matter whether you lace the shoe from your right side or the right side of the shoe. Just make sure you always do it consistently and the results are the same.
Thread the left shoelace from the bottom of the shoe. The shoelace will be pulled out through the third hole on the left side from the toe. You should have a hole on the left side between the original horizontal shoelace and the hidden lace underneath.
Pull the right shoelace to the left and slide it from the top down to the second hole. You now have two pieces of lace across, and both of the remaining laces are on the left side.
Pull the shoelaces that are threaded below the third hole to the right. Thread the shoelace from the top down to the third hole on the right. You now have two horizontal laces and each of the remaining laces is lying on the sides of the shoe.
Repeat these operations. Thread the left shoelace from the bottom of the shoe so it is pulled out through the fifth hole on the left. Then, thread the right shoelace from the bottom of the shoe so that it is pulled out through the sixth hole on the right. Thread each piece of shoelace across the same row hole on the other side to create a horizontal lacing pattern.

  • If your shoe has more than six pairs of holes, you will still repeat the process, continuing to lace from the other side after each two horizontal laces are finished.

Cross shoelace style

Thread each end of the shoelace from the top to the bottom pair of holes. Insert the ends of the shoelaces into the pair of holes closest to the toe. The shoelaces will now form a horizontal line in the pair of holes below with two pieces of shoelaces inserted in. Pull the ends of the laces up to shape the cross section and then down towards the toe.
Pull the right shoelace to the left. Thread the shoelace from the top to the second hole from the toe. The right laces are pulled over the tongue with the left laces below the horizontal and just crossed laces. Pull the cross shoelace to the left (away from the shoe) so it doesn’t get caught.

  • This is usually easiest to do when you take off your shoes and place them facing you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re wearing it from your right side or the right side of your shoe. Just do it consistently and the results will be the same.
Pull the left shoelace to the right. Thread the shoelace from the top down to the next second hole on the right, same as you did with the other side. At this point, you will have a cross-tie piece and two cross-tie pieces. Pull the piece of shoelace you just put on to the right (away from the shoe) so it doesn’t get entangled.
Continue to tie the criss-cross pattern. First, pull the right shoelace to the left and thread it through one hole, making sure the remaining laces are below the two diagonal laces. Pull the thread just out to the left so it doesn’t get tangled up, then thread the left side to the right. Repeat until you’ve finished tying the shoelaces.

  • Lace up your shoes in this fashion so that the cross-laces that are threaded in one direction are always above the cross-laces that are threaded in the other direction. When lacing the other shoe, be sure to reverse the process so that the laces are the same.

Basic note when tying shoelaces

Keep shoelaces from twisting. Straight, flat laces are the hallmark of classic Vans, so don’t lace them sloppily because they’re out of style. If you want your Vans shoes to look new and eye-catching, you should keep the shoelaces straight.

  • Every time you put your shoelaces in the hole, make sure they are flat and not twisted. Do it slowly.
  • If the laces are straight, do not tie the laces too tight as this will make the laces tight and look uneven.
Take off your shoes and place them facing you. It’s easier to lace your shoes when you put your shoes on the floor with the toes facing you, rather than the other way around. If you want to lace up your shoes beautifully, you should take off your shoes and turn them around.
Use thick white shoelaces. White Vans laces are of course the best match for Vans shoes, but other white sneakers are fine as well. In general, skate laces are thick and white, while basketball laces can be very thin and round, or other sneakers can be thinner.

  • Of course, you can use any color, but brand new white laces are a popular lace for Vans shoes.
Change shoelaces often. A new set of laces will make the shoe more beautiful. It’s best to change your shoelaces every few weeks, especially if you skate a lot and break or scratch your shoelaces.
  • Change the way you tie your shoelaces. To make your shoes last longer, it’s best to change the lacing style so that your shoes don’t wear out because of the same lacing style.

    • If you lace your shoes horizontally, switch to cross-lacing from time to time to keep your shoes looking new.
    • If you are wearing a cross, you should change the direction of the knot so that the right string is not fixed on the left and vice versa. This will prevent the shoes from wearing out unbalanced.

    • The “Authentic” and “Era” line Vans shoes are laced from the outside to the inside because of the shoe’s design; With the tongue sewn close, the shoelace from the inside out will hide the first cross-lacing part.
