Flash is no longer developed for Linux. The latest versions only integrate this software with Chrome. If you use the Chromium browser, you can separate the Flash plug-in from Chrome to use. When using Firefox, you need to switch to another browser if you want the latest versions. If you use Chrome browser and update to the new version, you can easily install this software.

Wait until the installation is complete. You may have to wait a while. Once the installation is complete, the name of the computer will appear again. Type exit and press ↵ Enter to close Terminal.

Restart the browser. Flash is now installed for the Chromium browser.

Check for updates periodically. When installed this way, Flash will not automatically update. You will have to manually check for new updates relatively often.

  • Open Terminal.
  • Type sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree –status and press ↵ Enter to check for updates. If the available update shows a version number greater than the installed update, there is a new update available.
  • Type sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree –install and press ↵ Enter to install the update.
  • Restart your browser to complete the update installation.

Install on Chrome Browser

Update Chrome browser. Since Flash is software built into Chrome, you don’t have to mess around with how to run it. You just need to update your Chrome browser to the latest version and Flash will work properly.

Switch to Chrome or Chromium browsers. Adobe no longer supports Linux development with the exception of the Pepper Flash add-on for the Chrome browser. That means the Flash add-in for Firefox is too outdated, no longer improved, and only minor security fixes remain.
