Steps

Incubated in Paper Bags

Prepare a brown paper bag, ripe bananas and an apple or tomato. Putting bananas in a paper bag with other fruits will help increase the amount of ethylene gas. Ethylene gas is a substance secreted by ripe fruits. Essentially, this gas speeds up the ripening process, giving you soft, greasy bananas.
Put the banana in the bag.
Add the tomatoes and/or apples to the bananas. Make sure the tomatoes are not overripe, or they will break or shrivel in a paper bag. If you don’t have apples or tomatoes, you can use pears instead.
Close the mouth of the bag. Roll or fold the edge of the bag so that the ethylene gas released by the fruit does not escape.
Place the fruit bag in a warm place. The higher temperature will help the fruit to release more ethylene gas, so that the ripening process will take place faster.
Leave the bananas overnight. Leave bananas and other fruits in a paper bag overnight. The next morning, check to see if the banana has reached the ripeness you want. If not, roll up the bag and keep checking every 12 hours until the bananas are ripe.

  • Green bananas that are ripened by paper bags must have yellow skin or yellow skin with brown spots within 24 hours.

Bake in the Oven

Preheat oven to 150°C. If the oven has a light, turn on the light to monitor the ripening process of the bananas.
Place bananas on a baking tray. You should only arrange 3-4 bananas on the tray, not too many. Note that this method does not ripen green-skinned bananas, but can only be used to ripen nearly ripe (yellow-skinned) bananas.
Bake bananas in the oven. Baking time in the oven depends on the intended use of the bananas.
If you want to use bananas to make a dish, cook it for about 1 hour. After 1 hour, the banana peel will turn completely black and the banana will be perfectly ripe for smoothies or baked goods like banana bread.
  • If you want to use bananas to eat right away, bake them in the oven for 20 minutes. Bananas that have been incubated in the oven long enough until their skins are a darker yellow color and are free of dark spots is good enough to eat right away. This process usually takes 20 minutes, but watch closely to get the bananas out at the right time.

    • After taking the bananas out of the oven, put the bananas in the refrigerator to cool and prevent the bananas from ripening further. Fully cooled bananas are edible.
  • Advice

    • Raw bananas will ripen faster.
    • If you do not want to ripen bananas immediately, use a hanger to hang bananas to create the feeling of bananas hanging on a tree, so bananas will ripen 2-3 days later.
    • Place the bananas in the refrigerator to prevent them from ripening further.

    Warning

    • If you want bananas to continue to ripen, you should not put green bananas in the refrigerator. Cold temperatures will interrupt the ripening process and once removed from the refrigerator, bananas will not ripen again.
    • Although many people like to eat green bananas or the tops of bananas are still green, unripe bananas often cause indigestion because of their high starch content.
