{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/8/81/Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-1-Version-3.jpg/v4- 728px-Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-1-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/8/81/ Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-1-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-1-Version-3. jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Choose a basic personality. Don’t worry: Japanese cartoon or manga characters are not much different from ordinary people. There are characters who are shy, funny, sarcastic, and, of course, shameless. Even without emulating specific characters, building a basic personality type will still help. Once you’ve built the basics, you can add extra details that make you look more like a Japanese cartoon or manga character to make a real impression.

  • Don’t know which personality type to choose? Try choosing a personality opposite of yourself for fun and extra challenge. If you’re shy, try playing the brave or impulsive person.
  • Consider building on an existing character’s personality. For example, you can act coldly like Sephiroth in “Final Fantasy 7” (Final Fantasy 7).

Exaggerate your emotions. Even someone who is new to Japanese anime or manga can notice the overreaction of many characters. Exaggerate the basic personality trait you want. If you love life, be overjoyed. When playing a cold or serious person, you need to be extremely cold and serious. Think of this as a fun opportunity to act deeply and differently from every other day.

  • One of the most notable characters is Edward Elric in the series “Fullmetal Alchemist”. This character will get very angry whenever someone calls him short.
  • There are also many rather emotionless role models. Instead of exaggerating, try to cover up your feelings and appear calm, cool, and in control.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/6/64/Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-3-Version-3.jpg/v4- 728px-Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-3-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/6/64/ Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-3-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-3-Version-3. jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Add some habits or gestures. Everyone has a little bit of their own habits or gestures, such as twisting their hair or their signature smile. Characters in Japanese anime and manga are no exception. A typical example is L’s rubbing his toes together in “Death Note”. Even when playing the typical character, adding a unique habit or gesture will make the acting more natural. Enjoy the experience! If you play the bad guy, you can stroke your beard or laugh wildly. Traditional knights or heroes pose strong and dance with fake swords. Here are a few more ideas to consider:

  • A sarcastic character can raise an eyebrow.
  • The shy girl often plays with her curls.
  • Characters with enthusiasm will raise their fists high.
  • The girl who lives in the strong shell may fold her arms or pout, especially when talking to someone she has a crush on!

Own the saying that makes your brand. Similar to habits and gestures, a typical sentence will inspire inspiration to role-play a Japanese cartoon or manga character. Think of Naruto with the catchphrase “Trust me!” Other words and expressions include: feh (no), meh (whatever) and baka (idiot). If you love a certain Japanese cartoon or manga character, you can take inspiration from some of their familiar sayings or create your own.

Try playing the girl who lives in a strong shell if you want to discover two opposing personalities. This is a good opportunity for you to challenge yourself to play two almost different roles, so you will never be bored by acting in the same color again. The girl who lives in a strong shell is usually calm and collected, except when she is with someone she likes. In that case, she gets flustered easily and often behaves rudely to cover up her feelings. [1] X Source of Research She will help someone she has a secret crush on, but often comes with statements like: [2] X Source of Research[3] X Source of Research

  • “It’s not like I like you or anything.”
  • “I’m only doing this for you. Don’t be fooled!”
  • If she accidentally touches that person, she might say, “I didn’t mean to. Don’t take it seriously!”

Choose an emotionless character if you like calm, self-control and seriousness. The emotionless character has natural leadership qualities and stays calm in difficult situations when everyone is panicking. They tend to speak in a monotone and are afraid to show their emotions or weaknesses. [4] X Research Source However, they also have a weak side that only someone they trust knows about, be it their lover or sometimes someone else. [5] X Research Sources

  • Less emotional domination and more focus on reality. See the flower in the distance? Don’t mention the beauty of the flower or what you think when you see it. It’s just a red flower. End!
  • Limit expression of emotions. If the person says something funny, a small smile is enough. [6] X Research Sources
  • An emotionless character can be sarcastic or sarcastic. This is a subtle and fun challenge that requires humorous acting skills. [7] X Research Sources

Play as a quiet character if you don’t mind showing your shyness and being a bit socially withdrawn. Inwardly, the quiet character may also want to socialize but is too shy or afraid to go out and open up. When they’re close to someone, they’re usually open, childish, and upbeat. [8] X Research Sources Because of their quietness and shyness, they can be a bit indifferent, but not as cold as the emotionless character.

  • A good way to show shyness is to say something like “yeah” or “um”. May also stammer a little and speak softly.
  • Most quiet characters won’t open their mouths unless someone starts a conversation with them or it’s necessary to communicate (for example, when the teacher calls them to the board in class). [9] X Research Source
  • You don’t have to completely shun society. Many quiet characters still have special people to confide in . Ask someone with a similar interest in cosplay to transform into someone special so you can comfortably play the quiet character and practice showing your shyness and pride whenever they’re around. Choose character. Most people think it’s easiest to play a character with a similar personality. However, some people consider portraying opposing characters as a fun or easy challenge.

  • Consider starting with two types of characters: similarity and opposite personality. For character types that are too difficult to imitate, you can narrow the scope to make it easier.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/1/18/Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-9-Version-3.jpg/v4- 728px-Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-9-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/1/18/ Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-9-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Act-Like-an-Anime-or-Manga-Character-Step-9-Version-3. jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Study their segments. If you can, try to read both manga and watch cartoons. Remember how the character reacts in each different situation. Notice all of their emotional states and how they react when happy, sad, angry, or scared. Research character behavior when around: family, friends, enemies, strangers. This is a good incentive to watch anime and read your favorite Japanese manga, so cheer up!

  • If you are a stoic character, you should pay more attention. This type of person is delicate in expressing emotions, so it needs to be watched closely.
  • Don’t just watch movies or read books. If the character appears in the video game, watch the in-game scene (cutscene)!

Find character information online. The Internet contains a lot of information about Japanese anime and manga. Try to find the home page of the movie or story and research the character. The more you know, the easier it is to imitate the character, understand their personality and why they are the way they are.

  • Unofficial or fan-created sources can be helpful, but you should only half believe them because many people analyze characters in their own way, which is not always true. author.

Imitate the character’s speech. If you’re not good at impersonating, don’t worry: there’s no need to do the exact same thing, though of course you can! Instead, notice how they speak. Fast or slow? Big or gentle? Is your voice full of emotion or calm and lifeless? Notice how your voice rises and falls. Improve your parody skills and try to mimic smooth intonation when talking.

Learn a few sentences. Speed up by learning a few familiar characters’ sayings. If you can’t copy a particular character, you can learn a few Japanese words or sentences. This is a great way to familiarize yourself with a new language and even learn to speak a little Japanese!

Check posture and body language. Acting isn’t just about talking and mimicking facial expressions–it also includes walking, standing, sitting, lying and everything about the character. Review the character’s passage and notice how they walk, stand, or move. Maybe the shy character will drop his shoulders when walking and use his hands to “cover” his face. Confident or arrogant characters often stand upright, with their heads held high and their chests puffed out. Stick to the silly or overdone characterization and don’t be afraid to push the boundaries. That’s what makes cosplay fun!

  • Don’t forget their habits! Does your character have a signature move like playing with a curl of hair? Keep that in mind!
Image titled Act Like an Anime or Manga Character Step 14

Consider owning items associated with the character image. Does the character often carry something? If so, consider bringing a similar item with you! A typical example is the character L in the comic book “Death Note” often associated with the image of a piece of cake. You can bring a slice of fake cake or a piece of real cake as a snack. Another case is that the character Nekozawa in “Ouran High School Club” (Ouran High Schop Host Club) always carries the puppet Beelzenef with him.

  • Don’t be too dependent or let things take over your role. Should only be used to embellish and add realism to the acting.

It should be understood that not everything is socially acceptable. The character’s behavior may be normal in his or her world, but not in real life. Even during the carnival, there are still some unacceptable behaviors including punching, touching, excessive swearing and more. Listen to your intuition: if you feel that an action might bring you trouble, it’s best not to do it.

  • If it’s a very bad character, consider being less mean or getting the masses to see your actions through a humorous lens to avoid offending others. No one will want to compliment your costumes or acting skills if you’re too cruel!.
  • That is not to say that you are not allowed to transform into your favorite character. You should imitate the good and reduce the bad.

Know when to act like the character and when not to. While playing a cartoon character can seem cool and fun, there are times when you need to be serious. If you’re with a stranger to anime or cosplay, it’s best to be yourself.

  • For example, “The Alchemist” fans will laugh if you complain about Edward Elric’s height. And of course not your doctor.

Don’t force people to follow. At a carnival, some people will probably interact with your acting and join in, especially if they’re also dressed up, but keep in mind that’s not all. If you imitate the character but other people don’t respond, just ignore them. There will be many other cosplayers who are happy and excited to act with you.

  • Observe their body language to behave appropriately. If they seem uncomfortable or confused, such as avoiding, looking around, or evading, leave them alone.

Be yourself. Don’t let yourself get caught up in the role and forget who you are! Remember, my friends play with me for the real person, not the comic character I play.

    • At the same time, learn the character’s good points to improve yourself. Example: If they are a good listener, try focusing on that aspect other than acting. Back then, the art of cosplay wasn’t just a hobby–it was a way of self-improvement.
  • Advice

    • You don’t have to act like a Japanese manga or anime character if you don’t want to.
    • Don’t give up because of pressure from people around. If all of your friends are forcing you to behave, ask them to stop.
    • Role-playing can be quite exhausting, so it’s sometimes necessary to step out of the role to get back to being yourself.
    • If you know someone who is knowledgeable about the character you’re dressing up as, you can ask them for help and listen to their opinions.
    • You don’t have to look exactly like a Japanese cartoon or manga character. Don’t change yourself to the point where your friends and people around you hate you. It’s not worth losing a friendship just because of an excellent portrayal of a character.
    • Playing your favorite cartoon or comic character is fun, but in moderation. Don’t be too extreme and copy the exact same character; Instead, add your own personality for balance.
    • The “passionately in love” type of character is usually female, but can also be male.
    • Remember that not everyone knows the cartoon, so don’t force them to join in the fun.

    Warning

    • Either way, someone will be upset. You need to be prepared to deal with the situation that some people do not understand your preferences. Keeping the faith is good, but avoid conflict as much as possible. After all, everyone is equal and has the right to object to what they don’t like, and so should you. Be calm, polite and friendly in all situations.
    • It is very likely that you will be labeled an eccentric or fake if you always imitate the character. Should understand and be aware of limits.
    • Never bring a weapon or anything that looks like it to school or work.
    • Make sure your character’s personality doesn’t sabotage your self-image or friendships.
