Observe the glossy black fur. One of the main characteristics of the Bombay cat is its short, shiny black coat. The aim of the early breeders was to create a cat that looks like a miniature leopard, so the glossy black coat is the first criterion. [1] X Trusted Source Cat Fancier’s Association Go to source

Look for yellow or bronze eyes. Another characteristic of this cat breed is eye color. Bombay cats were bred specifically to produce golden or bronze eyes, so if the cat you’re considering doesn’t have this trait, it’s probably not a purebred Bombay cat. Note if this cat likes to socialize. Bombay cats “talk” a lot, so they will often talk to you. Bombay cats themselves are not noisy but just because they like to communicate. Because they have a rather distinctive meow, you will immediately recognize when the cat wants to get attention. [7] X Research Source However, not all Bombay cats exhibit this trait. Pay attention to intelligence. Bombay cats are very intelligent, so watch out if the cat has the ability to discover many things. For example, maybe this cat will know how to open the bedroom door or get the treat you’ve hidden in the overhead drawer. Bombay cats love scavenger hunts, puzzles, and other cat toys.
